PLEASE LOOK AT THESE THREE LINKS ABOUT THIS CAR! Click here for a gallery of 99 photos and.... Hemmings Feature, please click here to read story and.... History and Rebuild Story, please click here This auction is for a 1970 BMW 2002. This car has less than 46,000 miles. It was originally sold in California. A schoolteacher used it for approximately 10 years at which time there was a head gasket leak. At that time the car was put up in the garage and remained in that state for approximately 25 years. Once the original owner died, the car went to an estate sale. It was bought and take them to Las Vegas where a sympathetic recommission was done. The car had a number of the soft parts such as belts, hoses, carpets and seat covers replaced at that time. At that time the engine was also rebuilt. This is well documented in the link above. I bought this car in 2011 and it maintained it properly since then. The car has been essentially trouble free. When I got the car it did have an issue with some rust in the rocker panels. These were small areas approximately the size of a quarter. I had them repaired. When I took possession of the car it was also clear that the car had been in a minor accident as the hood the left fender and the left door had been repainted. Otherwise the paint is all original. The paint have a nice patina including an area above the drivers door where you could tell the teacher put her hand each day! I have resisted any thought of repainting the car. The car starts easily and runs fine. The engine is strong and was rebuilt before I bought the car, please see accompanying link. The transmission works fine although it is best to shift into second gear before placing it into first gear at a stoplight. I suppose that there may be a weak synchro in first gear. I've had a number of old cars require that maneuver (passing through second gear before placing the shifter in first gear); it has become second nature. Other than that the transmission and the rest of the driveshaft is fine. The engine does leak a small amount of motor oil and I keep a piece of cardboard below the car. All electrical components work as they are supposed to. I recently replaced the starter and unfortunately the new starter grinds about half the time. I have another starter on order and will replace it OR include the new rebuilt starter with the deal if I do not have time to replace the starter. The starter is very easy to install as it only requires two bolts and several wires and is right on top of the engine. Even for me, it is about a 45 minute process. When I bought the car I replace the tires with the correct Michelin XAS tires. These were bought from Coker tires. All five tires including the spare are correct. Being from California, the body is in great shape. As I mentioned above I attended to the small areas of rust in the lower rocker panels. The car also has some surface rust in the wheel well. Otherwise it is virtually rust free. The driver door detent (to keep it open) doesn't work. The body has a collection of small scattered dings, none serious. It is "Nevada" which is a rare color according to the '02 paint sites. The chrome bumpers do have some dullness and up under do have some areas of discoloration. There certainly is no through-rust. Except for the hood, left fender and door as mentioned above the paint is original and does show a nice patina and appears to be in very good shape. As you can see from the pictures, the part of the dashboard about the instruments does have some cracks. The dashboard likewise has very minor cracking compared to most 2002's. The console is original and as you can see there is air conditioner which does work but there is no radio. This car has never had a radio nor has it had the console cut for one! The A/C works....well....it keeps your right hand knuckles cool if you have your hand on the shifter. Seats and carpet are in great condition as it was the headliner. The door cards do show some wear and I have captured pictures of that. The rubber gaskets around the windows are original and are hard and cracked. I resisted the idea of replacing them as overall they look OK. As you can see from the photographs the engine bay area is very stock in this appearance. Likewise the trunk is stock. You can see that this car does come with the original books as well as a authentic NOS tool kit made in West Germany. This is a rare tool kit, absolutely mint and is correct for this car. Car comes with a jack, lug wrench and spare tire, of course. It's original California blue plates as well as the license plates surrounds from the dealer are included. All in all, this is a very original complete and honest car. It has the correct tires, tool kit and books. I believe if someone is interested in a bone stock 2002 that this would be a great car to consider. The only thing about this car that is not stock is an authentic Nardi steering wheel and shift knob. They are very pretty and period correct. I appreciate you taking time to look at the car and read this narrative. Please click on the three links above that show information about this car and it's history. This car is over 40 years old and is sold as is, where is with no warranty implied or expressed. The buyer must arrange to have the car removed within two weeks of the sale. I'm more than happy to help load the car up on the truck however it is the buyer's responsibility to arrange and pay for shipping. I will require a non refundable $1000 deposit within two days of the auction close either a certified check or money wired to my account. The remainder must be paid within one week. I will ship the car only to the continental United States. I've had trouble selling the car to Canada in the past and do not wish to do so. I do not intend to sell this car internationally. All questions and inspection are welcome. I do reserve the right to sell the car locally prior to close of auction. This is a no reserve auction and I'm starting it at one dollar. I intend to sell this car. Please note my large number of positive feedback. I have never had negative feedback or neutral feedback. I am a surgeon who is been in practice for over 30 years.
