Vehicle Detail
Here is your chance to own one of Mercedes-Benz’s best and most expensive production cars at an unbelievably low starting bid and a low reserve. There is flaking paint on the aluminum hood and on the trunk lid. The ABS light on the dashboard occasionally flickers on and off. There is a rust spot at the rear of each of the left side wheel arches. There is some chrome flaking on the front bumper. The sun roof needs some parts to be installed. The latch spring in the left side door is broken (the door still opens, closes, latches and locks OK). The driver’s seat shows wear commensurate with 27 years of regular use. The upholstery under the rear window needs to be re-sewn or replaced. The interior wood trim is in good condition except for the wooden box below the centerline armrest which has flaking wood grain finish. There may or may not be some additional minor items that could be fixed but do not affect the operation of the vehicle. A new $1,792.86 REAR WINDOW has just now been installed; zero miles ago. I had the glass company leave the chrome trim in the trunk in case the new owner is not going to completely restore the vehicle with all new trim. If this vehicle is to be used only for personal transportation I would suggest a paint job; if you are a collector, etc., I believe that this vehicle is fully restorable. This is one of the best cars I've ever owned. The vehicle runs and drives as good or better than a typical 1986 car. It has been mechanically well maintained and has had all necessary work done to obtain a yearly Maine inspection sticker. The car has been a dependable runner and I have taken it on many long distance trips. This vehicle has a strong engine that uses no oil. The odometer ceased to work on August 5, 2011 at 134,622 miles. I would rate the condition of the body of this car as “ Fair to Good.” I would rate the paint job as “poor.” Mechanically, I would rate the car as “good.” The car has never let me down or left me stranded. It has dependably taken me on many round trips from Maine to Georgia, Texas, and Michigan. I have seldom owned a vehicle without a trailer hitch so I purchased and installed the only receiver hitch available for this model car. It was a special order “one off.” I don’t remember the price but it was a doozie. There may or may not be some additional minor items that could be fixed but do not affect the operation of the vehicle. The car is sold “AS-IS.” I do not have the time or strength to "doll up" the vehicle. I am a private seller. Unlike most car sellers; I have personally owned this vehicle (for eight years). I have done my best to describe this item carefully and accurately, There is no guarantee or warranty of any kind. The pictures depict this item exactly as it is – what you see is what you get. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thanks for looking! Note: Posted for information only is the answer to a question asked after this item was previously listed: I appreciate your offer but the item has been re-listed on Ebay. I'm amazed at how close your offer was to the reserve price. I have had a successful bidder the previous two times that the Mercedes has been listed. The first high bidder was a used car dealer who attempted to beat me down on the bid price and then withheld the $500 deposit until he could inspect the car. Also, he did not want to make the $500 deposit and then wait a week for a new $1,792.86 rear window to be installed at no additional cost to him. The fool! The second successful high bidder let the time expire for making the initial $500 deposit. When I FINALLY was able to contact him he said that he purchased another Mercedes while the listing was still active. He thought sure that someone would outbid him so he didn't bother with a proper cancellation. My total investment compared to my estimate of the final purchase will probably net me between 7 and 8 cents on the dollar. I am going to check with a local junkyard and see what their "Cash For Clunkers" offer would be. I don't need the money and I don't care if I sell the car or not. Again, thanks for the offer but I will probably wind up letting the car go through another New England Winter and re-list it in the Spring. Its value will probably not drop and the market is so soft its value may even skyrocket. I put this vehicle up for bids with a (very low) reserve so that I don't have to continually monitor the auction. There is flaking paint on the aluminum hood and on the trunk lid. Note: This car may very well sell for less than the cost of the new rear window. If so, you are virtually getting the rest of the car for free. Also, I had to put two new tires on the car to pass the Maine State Inspection. The car has been a dependable runner and I have taken it on many long distance trips.
