Vehicle Detail
This cycle originally belonged to my Dad. He passed away this past May at 93. Dad bought the bike in the early 80s. It was a complete basket case, but all the key parts were there. Dad put the bike together, using the parts that were available along with some non-standard items he had in his garage. It surprised us all when the bike started right up and ran smoothly. Dad rode his BMW for years on the backroads near Tulsa, Oklahoma. The old BMW didn't see much use after Dad's age caught up with him in 2002. The cycle is complete except for the headlight and speedometer cowling. The engine and frame numbers match. The parts all seem to fit nicely, but only a BMW expert could tell you if they are all original. All I can tell you is that Dad bought them all at the same time from the same individual and that they all had the same paint on them. Dad assembled the parts in the early 80s and the parts are in the same condition as when they were assembled. Other than assembling the parts there was no restoration done on the machine. The tailpipes are Dad's creation. He bought the pipe and had a muffler shop bend them to his specifications. There are no baffles but the sound is very mellow. I know the driveshaft will need some attention. It was broken when Dad bought the cycle and he actually had someone weld it back together. The welder must have been very skilled because the bike rode well with no undue vibration. The welder warned Dad not to get too far from home with it, but here it is 35 years later and that weld is holding just fine. Dad cruised around slowly on his BMW, higher speed touring might not be so smooth. The bike has not been started for a few years, but the engine, clutch, and transmission all turn over freely. The engine has compression and all the parts were in operating order when the bike was ridden last. This is one nice old R67/3 and needs to go to a good home. Seller will transport to many locations for a negotiated fee.
