Selling my 1996 740i Dark Green BMW for parts. Hopefully, someone can benefit from owning this vehicle before it is squished in the salvage heap. Here is what I think you need to know and what I do not know. This was a great vehicle up until over a year ago. As I was driving up the driveway, the steering became extremely difficult and almost impossible to maneuver. I made it up the driveway and parked the car. The next day when I went to start the car it did not sound right, so I took my second vehicle to work and pulled a Rip Van Winkle and it has sat in hibernation for well over a year. I never had a mechanic look at the vehicle and I am 100% mechanically clueless. I just left the BMW in the driveway and did nothing about it. Someone said it might be a steering hose, but that would not explain why the vehicle does not start right now. My wife gave me until November 1st to have it looked at or it goes on ebay. Here it is on ebay. Some details about the car. Right now it does not start. I tried to jump start it today and the lights went on, but the engine would not turn over. There seemed to be plenty of energy from the jump start based on the strength of the car lights, but it would not turn over. The car has very low mileage with only 113,000 miles. The registration just expired in August. I believe the only way to remove the vehicle would be to tow it, but I could be wrong. Remember the steering was gone. I owned it for a number of years and it was very reliable and mainained by a BMW mechanic. I was only the 2nd owner. There is a dent in the rear drivers side that also cracked the rear bumper area when it happened. A car backed into me by mistake while the vehicle was parked. I know the driver; even married her. My kids ran this vehicle. That means the floor is littered with caramel soda stains and the only thing mint is probably some squished Junior Mints lodged between the seats. No rips in the tan upholstery, but it is very, very tired. Pixels on the dashboard are mixed with many no longer working. 6 CD player in the trunk works fine, but the speakers were very poor quality. Exterior paint is history. The green is all starting to peel. Heat worked great. AC was good, but not ice cold. Heated seats worked fine. The rear window sun shades did not work. The front cup holder is not connected and while it can be used, it pulls all the way out and comes apart. Car is being sold as is with no warranty or guarantee. I just thought selling it this way, the car might end up in the right hands.
