Overview Download 150+ high res pics here View video overview hereThis original Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 is all original and in good running condition. The previous owner had it garaged for three years and drove it a handful of times on the weekends throughout the year (he had about 10 other toys in his series of garages and sold this one because he was clearing out for something new). He put brand new BFG tires on it, had the brakes completely redone, and had it tuned. Prior to that, the original owner from Denver had it and did a fairly average restoration on the vehicle by mitigating slight rust and applying a very “so-so” paint job where the body work was done. There does not appear to be any rust bubbling up or surfacing from this restoration. A walk around the vehicle banging on the metal from both sides revealed no weak areas. The previous owner from Colorado Springs said that the original owner put in new metal where there were issues and had a new rear sill put in, as well. Even though the restoration was “so-so” it does appear to have kept this FJ40’s body and metal in very good condition, thus making it an excellent candidate for a full restoration or to sinmply enjoy as-is. The best part is that it is quite original and includes hard-to-find items such as the owner’s manual, tool roll, original trouble light and more. The old-school roof rack appears to be either hand-made or quite vintage and is probably period-specific to 1971. If you're looking for a great beach cruiser, mountain cruiser, or classic FJ40, this is an excellent vehicle and can be driven daily.Highlights -79k miles (unable to "prove" these are original miles, but the previous owner said they were original miles and from the cleanliness and originality of the FJ, I'd would wager it likely is in that 79k range) -Clear Colorado title -Runs strong -All original -New valve cover gasket -Seats recently reupholstered -Old school roof rack (probably vintage from the 1970s) -3 speed manual transmission (original factory 3 on the tree) -4WD works perfect, both high and low -Brand new BFG M/T Tires (all five) -Brakes completely redone (shoes, brake master, drums turned, new wheel cylinders) -Hardly any rust -Includes original owners manual, trouble light (with rare original trouble light pouch), bottle jack, and tool roll -New shocks -All glass in excellent condition; front windshield has no cracks or chips -Window regulators work perfect; windows crank up and down with ease -Rear hatch stays work perfect and are in excellent shape -All doors open and close perfectly; new weatherstrip all around -Underbody coated in protective coating; no rust before coating was applied -New muffler -New radiator (not shown in pics as I literally just installed it; it is not a remanufactured radiator, but a brand new CSF 2888 radiator) Known Issues -Left rear corner was dented in a bit (corner metal or full quarter panel replacements available from Cool Cruisers for about $90 each) -Some minor rust on front fenders (aftermarket fenders available for around $400) -Blinker has to be held down, but works (needs new switch, which is still available from Toyota for around $100) -Rear heater not hooked up but diverter part included for hooking back up (just needs some hose) -Carb needs a bit of an adjustment even though it looks like it was recently rebuilt -Speedo cable broke about 250 miles ago (Toyota part still available) -Dome light there but not hooked up -Top dash pad missing (new one from Toyota still available for around $550) -Roof rack mounting arms/clips work, but need to be reconfigured or repaired to be trail worthy -Some play in the steering wheel, which is pretty common on these older FJs. There's no safety concern from what I can tell, but I'd probably install new tie rod ends (parts are about $125)Other Things to Note -No headliner. The top of the fiberglass was painted white. It looks fine, but if it were me, I'd put an OEM headliner in it (roughly $200) -The top raingutter was filled in by the previous owner with a hard caulk or putty or something. I've never seen this done before. It's tastefully done and painted white, but not original. -The water temp gauge is an aftermarket gauge. I'd probably get a good used working OEM one and take this out. -The bumper is new but not original. You can still get a brand new one from Toyota for $200. It's 6 bolts to swap out. -The left side mirror is not original. You can get a brand new one from Toyota for around $50 -Was partially restored by previous owner; they repaired some of the body with new metal and did a “fair” job on the paint. From a distance this rig looks great, but it is not by any means fully restored. I’d recommend fixing the left rear quarter panel, adding new fenders, and then completely redoing the paint job and using a higher quality paint in Toyota “Freeborn Red” - that said, you could definitely enjoy it "as is" as it is quite originalTest Drive / Delivery If you would like to fly to Colorado to test drive the FJ prior to the auction close, you are welcome to do so and I can arrange a time for you to view and test drive the FJ. In my description above, I describe this FJ as having a "fairly average restoration" - after discussing the use of the word "restoration" with someone in the Land Cruiser community (someone that I have the utmost trust and respect for) I thought I would take a minute to explain what I meant by "fairly average restoration" - what I mean to say is that it had the rust repaired and replaced with new metal, a tune up was done, it received a "fair" paint job, and other things like the upholstery and other parts were fixed. According to my Land Cruiser expert, I should not have used the word "restoration" in my description. A restoration in his mind is when the entire vehicle is completely gone through and repaired at a cost of around $70k to $100k range. Of course this FJ has not been fully restored, and my reserve price reflects what I think the actual value is given it's current condition. I feel like I'm saying that in my description, but wanted to clarify here because it's important to me that I describe this FJ accurately as I want the new owner to feel confident in what they purchased. It's also important to me, personally, to make sure that I've been truthful in my description. I also say it is "all original" - I should have said that it's "mostly original" given the fact that it's got the aftermarket water temp gauge, not the original upholstery, and a different front bumper, etc. If you have any questions about this FJ or want further details or pics, please feel free to call me at 970.227.9494 Best, Chris
