Car information1962 MGA 1600 Mk II RoadsterVin No. GHNL2/102157 Engine No. 16GC-U-1502, correct 1622 cc engine size for 1962Body No. B33927Rear Axle No. 1500 Gearbox No. 9966, known to have been changed to this in 1974 Heritage CertificateBuild date of June 29th and 30th, 1961. Date originally titled in United States July 18, 1963. See attached British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certified copy of factory record for the known build information regarding this car. This car is one of 2,365 left-hand drive made for this final 1962 model year built for North American export. Known ownership historyI recently purchased this vehicle from a gentleman in New Castle, Pennsylvania, who owned it 41 years. He purchased it, sight unseen, from a gentleman who didn't want to do a transmission repair. After replacing the transmission, he had brake problems on the first day driving it and placed it in covered storage for 31 years. When he could no longer use that storage, he built a tarped enclosure; but the tarps would eventually leak, so he would add one as he could. Unfortunately, it was during this time that the car received obvious weather exposure. The only other bit of ownership history I am aware of is that he bought the car nearby in Pennsylvania. There is also a window sticker from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1968/1969. I believe this could account for the 58,824 miles shown on the odometer as being correct. All of the miles were put on in the first 14 years of ownership. Clear Ohio title is in my name. Restoration prospectIt is my hope that this car is a restoration prospect. It would be an ambitious project. There is a lot of rust along the body seams and other areas. Yet other areas are sturdier. I also see areas of rust concern on the frame, after removing the plywood floorboards. There is obvious evidence of previous patching up and painting from over 40 years ago. However, after seeing what people are doing, starting out with cars of much less rarity and finished value, I am certain someone out there has what it takes to do this car and be glad they did. Certainly, this car is more than just another parts car. I would love to keep this car and do it myself, but we already have a 1969 MG Midget that we have had for almost 40 years. The sentimental value of our first date and long ownership prevents me from trading to this much rarer and more valuable vehicle. More vehicle info, the good and badNote the authentic, vintage Talbot & Co. Berlin series 4" sport mirrors. I am not an expert, but are these model 333? Brand new in box from Victoria British: front grille part # 9-982 (presently lists for $399.95, never installed, only set in for pictures), one pair of bumper guards: part # 9-985 (presently lists for $34.95 each). All Jaeger dashboard gauges present with no cracked lenses, cannot confirm if functional. Wood floorboards are deteriorated. Windshield has chip in center, drivers side at bottom corner has small crack. Have convertible top frame with top, no side curtains. What is left of the seat upholstery is in poor condition. Have jack, but in poor condition. There are no other tools or owner manual. Tires hold air, will roll easily. Steering works for maneuverability to load. Have all four hubcaps. Dashboard is missing ignition switch, do not have key. Put Marvel oil in all cylinders and down from above with valve cover off, let saturate for two weeks. Confirmed engine not frozen: turned crank by hand. No attempt has been made to actually fire the engine. Gearbox shifter moves, not frozen. It would be wise to make a personal inspection of this car.
