Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1971 Classic Land Rover 109 (109” Wheelbase) Safari Station Wagon. This “Landie” is the classically British and manly Land Rover that generations have come to love and admire. Specification include:2.6 Litre Petrol Engine.4x4 with transfer case 2.35/1.15ENV front and rear axlesManual 4-speed gearbox (all synchromesh) with VERY rare and desirable OverDrive The chassis & frame was unique to the model and featured drop-shackle suspension similar to the military series Land Rovers. 900x16 tyres were a standard feature and these machines were commonly used by utility companies and breakdown/recovery firms. Only 170 IIA and 238 Series IIIs (1 Ton) were built for the home market. Export markets had even fewer examples, making this one of the rarest types of Land-Rover ever built. What makes the particular Landie so unique is that its original owner was the British military where it served from 1971 until being de-commissioned due to 5 year age limit in 1976. It was promptly purchased by an Officer for his own use and since immigrated to the USA legally as a 1 car exemption for servicemen. Overall, the green paint has lots of character and patina and give the truck a unique finish that only comes from years of use; this finish would be difficult to replicate. The body and chassis are free of rust and the interior has been upgraded with quite comfortable and stylish later model Defender seats. Mechanically, the truck is perfect and starts right up with no problem or issues. Its ready to travel the Outback (or to Outback Steakhouse ?) and no terrain will even be a mild change. By the way, dual fuel tanks so its ready for looong journeys. Full Service History from new written in British Military Service booklets. Also certified via British Motor Industry Heritage Trust I’m selling this vehicle for my brother so I’m no expert. You’re welcome to check it out and inspect it for yourself prior to final payment. $1000 deposit required at Auction Close. Please call 336-877-7649 for further details and/or to arrange an inspection etc
