Vehicle Detail
1961 GMC short bed step side 1/2 ton pickup. This has an original 305 cubic inch "big block" V6 engine backed by a Hydramatic 4-speed transmission.(The big block V6s were made exclusivly for GMC trucks and the hydramatic 4-speed was something I've never seen before but appears to be original to the truck) I bought this neat little truck at an estate auction so I don't have any information on the history but I will try to tell you everything that I know. My intentions were to fix it up to play with and I've done a few things to it but in the past few months I've had to pay for some major repairs on my home and it's either borrow money or sell some of my toys. When I bought the truck it had last been licensed in 2001 but there was no information on why it was parked. What I've found and repaired so far is: engine needed new points to get it to fire, drained and flushed gas tank, replaced leaking fuel filter, new battery, new axel seal and bearing in rear end, (axel grease ruined brake shoes so I replaced shoes and wheel cylinders on both rear wheels) Truck runs and lot drives (engine holds 40 lbs oil pressure) but I've never had it out on the highway. Front suspension, steering, etc. seem to be good. Transmission works good foreward and reverse. Brakes have good pedal and will stop the truck but it really needs power brakes. All lights work, including turn signals and dome light. Tires have good tread and hold air but they are old and need to be replaced. This is definitely a project but with minor work there's no reason why you couldn't drive it while you are doing the work. Truck needs rust repair and cosmetic work. Bed is pretty solid and needing only minor repair where the fenders bolt on, Tailgate is good, fenders need minor repair (see pictures) and bed wood was rotted so I took it out. As you can see in the pictures, the frame is solid. Now for the bad part...The cab is rusted through above the windshield and both front inner fenders are rusted through. The floor is pretty solid but there is rust on the cab mounts. The glass is all usable as-is but most would need replaced for a show truck...bottom of windshield is smokey, chip in one side glass and crack in the other. Seat has one bad spring on the outer part of the driver's side but it isn't under the driver. As I said before This is a project! It is not ready to jump in and drive away but it is a good start to a great little truck that is getting harder and harder to find. They only made these with the wraparound windshield for a few years. I have a clear Missouri title in my name. The engine, transmission etc. appear to be original to this truck but I can't research it because sometime in it's life it was given a Missouri assigned VIN tag (don't know why and don't know where to find out) but as I said, I do have a clear title in my name that shows the Missouri VIN. Truck is located in Westphalia (central) Missouri. Truck is sold as-is with low opening bid and a low reserve. (reserve is just what I have spent for the truck and parts I've replaced) Down payment of $500 through Paypal within 48 hours of auction ending and balance when vehicle is picked up. Vehicle to be picked up within 1 week of auction ending unless other arrangements are agreed upon prior to auction end. Pick up/shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, however, I can deliver within a 200 mile radius for $1.25 per loaded mile. Look at the pictures and bid accordingly.
