Vehicle Detail
This CBX was previously owned by an enthusiast who wanted the performance of the '79 model with the look of the black 1980. The most outstanding features of this bike are the Tank, Cowl and Fender which are OEM, not repainted items. These pieces are in amazing condition with no chips, scratches or rust of any kind. I would rate the painted parts as 9.9 out of 10 because nothing is perfect. I recently detailed the bike and could find no imperfections. The OEM exhaust system was purchased at a Honda dealer as a replacement to the original system. Both sides are stamped "HM422" but have an entire paragraph of emissions requirements on each muffler canister which the originally installed items did not have. I'm not certain, but this exhaust system may be even more rare than the pipes that came on the bike. Nobody back then would order replacement stock pipes, would they? The exhaust system is in excellent condition as well with no corrosion in the usual spots underneath, no dents, scrapes. No issues with the chrome plating either. The '79 silver Comstar wheels we're replaced with the black highlighted 1980 version with the slightly wider rear. Other bits include a Hondaline engine guard, front fork brace and Accel coils and performance spark plug wires. You will receive an entire notebook with receipts and dated, hand written entries that chronicle the service history of this great running bike. This documentation includes sales receipts for the painted parts, exhaust system and service work orders for a top end and carburetor rebuild. I own three CBXs and this is the best performing of the lot. Please keep in mind that this bike is 36 years old and is not a restoration, so there are some items I want to point out that aren't perfect. The tachometer is "slow" meaning the needle is slow to indicate the actual RPMs. This is a common problem and can be corrected by at least two shops that I know of. Also, like every '79-80 CBX, the clutch rattles when the bike is in neutral with engine running. Tim's offers a rebuild service if you'd like to quiet the chatter. Also, there is some minor pitting on some of the aluminum engine covers, however, it is way far less than what I've seen on other CBXs that were described as excellent. Finally, the seat has a reproduction cover. It's a quality item, but is not OEM. I have considered parting this bike out as I'm sure the OEM painted parts and Exhaust alone would fetch a hefty price. I just don't have the time. So instead, I've decided to let you CBX aficianados set the price in this "no reserve" auction! The bike is located in the Northern Virginia/Washington, DC area and is available for inspection. Please ask questions before you bid. I want you to be entirely satisfied with your purchase. My feedback both as a seller and buyer is unblemished which I attribute mostly to great communication so please ask any question you can think of, request additional photos, etc. I will be monitoring my inbox constantly while this auction is live. More photos coming soon! Good Luck Bidding! On Aug-20-15 at 00:13:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Updates based on questions received: Additional photos added showing "HM422" stamping on exhaust and emissions script on muffler have been added - use magnification feature to view; picture of frame neck shows frame # CB1-2017346 and picture of engine boss stamping shows engine # CBIE- 2017442. Value difference of only 96 between frame and engine verifies that this most probably (closer to definitely) is the original engine. Frame photo also shows 1979 Model designation with 11/78 manufacture date. Keep those question coming!
