UP FOR SALE IS MY 1971 PLYMOUTH SCAMP. IT CURRENTLY HAS 52,784 ACTUAL MILES. IT HAS A 318 V8 ENGINE, AN A-904 THREE SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, AN 8 3/4" REAR AXLE WITH A 489 CASE AND 2.76 OPEN GEARING, REAR DEFROST, DUAL BLOCK HEATERS, AND 10" HEAVY DUTY DRUM BRAKES ALL THE WAY AROUND. IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AT LINDY'S ESSO SERVICE IN BELLEVUE, ALBERTA, CANADA IN JULY OF 1971. IT WAS FAMILY OWNED FOR MANY YEARS THERE UNTIL THE FAMILY RELOCATED TO TAWAS CITY, MICHIGAN. WHILE IN TAWAS, THE CAR PASSED FROM FATHER TO SON. THE SON EVENTUALLY SOLD THE VEHICLE TO THE MAN I PURCHASED IT FROM. HE WAS IN HIS UPPER 80'S AND OWNED THE CAR FOR ONE SUMMER. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IT WITH THE INTENT OF BUILDING A HOT ROD. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR HAS SUCH A METICULOUSLY KEPT HISTORY. THAT HISTORY INCLUDES A LOG BOOK THAT HAS EVERY SINGLE FUEL FILL UP FROM DAY 1. THIS BOOK ALSO INCLUDES THE MAINTENANCE HISTORY. I CAREFULLY REMOVED TWO OF THE THREE BUILDSHEETS FROM THE CAR...ONE FORM UNDER THE BACK SEAT AND ONE FROM UNDER THE FRONT. I HAD TO REMOVE THE FRONT SEAT TO GET TO THAT SHEET. THE SEAT BELTS WERE NOT LOSSENED AS THE BENCH SEAT WAS TIPPED BACK IN THE CAR AND NOT REMOVED COMPLETELY. WHILE THE SEAT WAS TIPPED BACK, I PEEKED BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR CARPET HALVES AND STARING ME IN THE FACE WAS THE ORIGINAL CHRYSLER OF CANADA IBM PUNCHCARD. THE THIRD KNOWN BUILDSHEET IN THIS CAR STILL REMAINS TAPED TO THE TOP OF THE GLOVEBOX. ALSO, LOOKING OVER THE CAR IN DETAIL REVEALED THAT MANY FACTORY MARKINGS ARE STILL PLAINLY VISIBLE. THE GREASE PENCIL MARKINGS ON THE INSIDE OF THE DECKLID AND ON THE REAR VALANCE UNDER THE LICENSE PLATES ARE FACTORY MARKS. THE PAINT MARKINGS STILL EXIST UNDER THE CAR ON THE 8.75" REAR AXLE AS WELL AS ON THE 489 CASE. IT STILL RETAINS IT'S ORIGINAL 2.76 GEAR. THERE IS A LITTLE FACTORY UNDERCOATING OVERSPRAY UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE STILL. THE CAR STILL RETAINS THE FACTORY HEATER HOSES. THE FACTORY BLOCK HEATER CORDS ARE STILL INTACT. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, NONE OF THE POWERTRAIN HAS EVER BEEN OUT OF THIS CAR. IT IS COMPLETELY 100% NUMBERS MATCHING. THE INTERIOR (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE RUBBER FLOORMATS) IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. THE DEEPER I DUG INTO THIS CAR, THE MORE I REALIZED I COULD NOT TAKE IT APART AND BUILD IT UP AS A HOT ROD. MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE WILL...BUT, I CAN'T. SO, WHAT HAVE I DONE TO THE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT? I HAVE HAD NO BODY OR PAINT WORK DONE. I SIMPLY CLEANED THE CAR AND STORE IT IN A DRY BARN ON A RUBBER MAT WITH A COVER. I REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER WITH A FACTORY MATCHING BENDIX AND STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL. I INSTALLED AIR SHOCKS ON THE REAR OF THE CAR AND STILL HAVE THE ORIGINALS. BY THE WAY, AFTER BREAKING THE NUTS LOOSE ON THE FACTORY SHOCKS...THEY SPUN OFF BY HAND. THE BRAKE LINES STILL WIPE OFF SHINY. I REBUILT THE ROCHESTER 2 bbl CARB AND RESTORED THE FACTORY MECHANICAL CHOKE (IT HAD AN ELECTRIC CHOKE PUT ON IT SOME TIME IN ITS LIFE). I ALSO HAD THE FRONT SUSPENSION GONE THROUGH AND VERIFIED WITH AN ALIGNMENT. THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT! MY SON AND I DROVE IT TO COLUMBUS, OHIO LAST SUMMER WITH NO ISSUES (WE DID TAKE SPARE HOSES, BALLAST RESISTOR, POINTS, AND SUCH...JUST IN CASE). EVERY FACTORY FUNCTION ON THIS CAR STILL WORKS LIKE THE DAY IT ROLLED OFF OF THE ASSEMBLY LINE...FROM THE RADIO TO THE HEATER. ALL OF THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTING FUNCTIONS FLAWLESSLY, RIGHT DOWN TO THE IGNITION KEY LAMP ON THE STEERING COLUMN. WHILE THERE ARE ALOT OF NICE THINGS ABOUT THIS CAR, IT'S NOT PERFECT. THERE ARE THINGS THAT HAPPEN OVER A 45 YEAR LIFESPAN (SCRATCHES AND SUCH). THE PASSENGER FRONT FENDER HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH FIBERGLASS AT SOME POINT IN IT'S LIFE. WHILE SOMETHING HAPPENED BAD ENOUGH TO REPLACE THAT FENDER, IT DID NOT DISTURB THE INNER FENDER. IT'S PERFECTLY FINE. I HAVE A METAL OUTER FENDER THAT GOES WITH THE CAR IF THE BUYER WANTS IT. IT IS A FACTORY 71 FENDER, BUT NEEDS A LITTLE WORK. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS REPLACED WITH WHAT I BELIEVE IS A 1970 A-BODY DOOR. THE MOULDINGS ON BOTH OF THESE REPLACED PIECES ARE NOT EXACT MATCHES TO THE ORIGINALS. THERE IS A RUST SPOT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE FENDER (SHOWN IN THE PICTURES). THERE IS ALSO A RUST SPOT AT THE BOTTOM FRONT EDGE OF THE PASSENGER WHEEL WELL (ALSO PICTURED). THE REAR BUMPER WAS TAPPED IN A LITTLE AT THE DRIVER'S SIDE BUMPERETTE (ALSO PICTURED). THE VINYL TOP IS FACTORY ORIGINAL AND IN EXTRAORDINARY CONDITION, BUT THERE IS ONE BUBBLE PICTURED UNDER IT NEAR THE REAR QUARTER WELD SEAM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE INTERIOR IS ALSO IN FABULOUS SHAPE WITH NO TORN SEATS, NO CRACKS IN THE FACTORY DASH, NO RIPS IN THE HEADLINER, NO HOLES IN THE CARPET (OR THE FLOORBOARDS!). THE ONLY THINGS THAT THE CAR NEEDS IS A NEW TAILPIPE AND MUFFLER. THE REST OF THE EXHAUST IS FINE WITH NO LEAKS. I AM WILLING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CAR...JUST EMAIL.
