Vehicle Detail
THIS IS THE ONE, MY FRIENDS. Loads of trim & tons of character in the original paint patina. 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air Power Glide with good title. In seafoam or mint green decked in shiny trim and roomy interior that, to quote an old timer we met on the road, "has a back seat big enough to do somethin' in." People love to talk about it, look at and photograph it. An instant conversation starter, wherever you roll. Creates a beautiful aged backdrop for pictures, weddings and other events in different locations. We've always dreamed of having it pinstriped and clear coated, as it is, to turn it into a tough patina rod. Just the same, it's an excellent canvas for a restoration or high class rat. Was driven anywhere it would go every weekend for 2 years. We took this baby on a thousand mile cruise to a wedding in New Orleans. Had a blast of an adventure despite the 4 day layover in Baton Rouge to rebuild some things. (Any grease-hand knows that's just how it goes sometimes.) Parked it for the 12V conversion, life had other ideas, & it's been sitting lonely for the last year +. When she was riding, her exhaust was rich, she didn't like to idle for long periods and loved it between 35-55 mph, a great country cruiser for a crew. Odometer reads 21,906 & is accurate as far as we know. Pictures are just to get started. We had technical difficulty & have to get new shots. Hopefully posted within the week. Follows is a breakdown of work we have personally completed over the last 4 years and the conditions of the main components. MOTOR-Original factory 235; new glass bowl fuel pump (NOS ACDelco); new Offenhauser aluminum dual intake w/ 2 single barrel Rochester Carborators; Fenton true dual cast iron exhaust manifolds with new custom exhaust all the way back-nice sound not too loud; 235 chrome dress up kit; factory rebuilt lifters; new timing gear set; new water pump & pulley; new-classic radiator hoses, thermostat, front main seal, timing cover, oil pan gasket; Replaced transmission cooler; heater core & radiator have been flushed; 75% gas lines have been replaced; new metal vacuum lines; recent 12V generator conversion. TRANSMISSION-Automatic powerglide 2 speed cast iron pig. We purchased a used rebuilt transmission-Has shifted smoothly & run very well since install; Original closed drive line with new ball seal kit installed at time of tranny swap; original factory rear end; Fluids like to weep a bit but is minor & seems to be a symptom of age not issues. BRAKES- Brakes work as drum brakes should. Some new lines, some original; wheel cylinders & springs are operational; Emergency brake system was completely rebuilt including new cable replacements. FRONT END,STEERING,IGNITION-Factory systems with a working 1960s-ish aftermarket pivot arm compressor/stabilizer/adjuster thing (see pictures) that helps take some of the slop out of the steering. Still drives like a heavy steel mid century beast without power steering. Speedometer glass is cracked but functions; new speedometer cable, NOS ignition cylinder with matching key GLASS-Windshield has a hole, replacement will be included but not installed; Butterfly windows work, passenger side is cracked; Windows show their age. They roll but take some effort occasionally requiring a "lift" to get going again; have good used replacement for rear driver window; back glass is fine. INTERIOR- Interior is in overall great original shape. Front bench fabric is worn through in areas but that's the worst of it. Back bench is nice. Headliner is the nicest we've seen in an original barn find, couple of small holes with some discoloration but intact & holding. Original backseat fabric grip bar; interior stainless trims everywhere; back dashboard is nice; carpet is faded but has nice pile(see picture with seats pulled); all interior door trim is present & shiny; same for dash. We can't find the interior pictures with the seats in so we added a few that show the pattern until we can get new seat pictures. EXTERIOR-Minor repair on driver side head light area; Trunk has sizable dent; rear bumper/trunk apron ledge and rear area of rear quarter panels have significant crustiness compared to rest of vehicle-likely salvageable with work but crusty. All other panels are straight without any significant issues. Bird hood ornament is a rechromed used original; stainless hood divider trim that runs from the bird's tail was added; taillight housing bezels are correct replacements; gas tank trim not original to this car. All over surface rust patches on paint as seen in pictures. All locks work. Doors & trunk have separate keys. BIG BONUS-comes with 2 sets of 3 keys (ignition, doors, trunk). WHEELS - We think rear wheels are factory originals as the paint/patina matches perfectly & are correct size. Fronts are 15/6, rear 15/5, all are 5x4.75. Comes with 2 53 deep dog dish hub caps. We only roll with 2 because we ride with the fender skirts on. White wall tire trim aka Portawalls are pretty ratty up close, tires will be rideable but on the lower end of their life .Factory original spare wheel & tire in it's hole.
