1974 AMC Matador Sedan NO RESERVE !!! BID TO WIN Heres a car you rarely see anymore on the road and for those who really want to roll up to a cruise nite or car show in something unique, look no further ! Brief History on the car: this car has been in the dry AZ climate since as far back as we can track, and most of that life, sitting in an older ladys garage ! Which makes for a solid, rust free body and an interior showing better then avg wear ! Here is what I know the car needs right away to be a daily driver: replace leaky freeze plug / RF tire is toast / and the mechanical fuel pump is bad The car comes with a new factory style mechanical fuel pump / at the moment we have a nice low pressure electric fuel pump temp set up under the hood supplying the fuel / as for the fuel tank itself, it managed to get a small hole in the tank some how when the car was being towed, so the main gas tank has been empty for 5 yrs but the hole will need to be fixed before its road worthy. We have the car running off a small temp plastic fuel tank under the hood. As it sits the car is driveable around the parking lot and would load off and onto a car hauler with no problem keeping the shipping cost less too. Thats the stuff I know it needs first thing. A days worth of work and you should be ready to hit crusie nite or at least make it a daily driver if you want. Cosmetically and mechanically Im sure it needs more repair, but that really depends on how far you want to take the restoration to. Personally, this car is such a survivor and Un-molested car, it would be great just to fix what it really needs and enjoy it like that, okay and maybe a nice set of rims on it. The AC compressor is bad, but shouldnt take too much to get it back up and running and really the interior needs a good cleaning. Maybe buff out the paint some and keep your investment low while keeping the Survivor Title at the top of the list. Odometer shows Its not been off the road since 2010 because of a water leak on the back of the engine, which pretty sure is a leaky freeze plug. DRIVETRAIN: under the hood still looks just about 90% original and un molested. Other then the fuel pump etc, its still very factory and with some detailing, would look great. Hit the key and the motor fires up with no problem. Put the car into any gear and it drives around like its suppose to. Ive just taken it around big parking lot but there are no weird noises or smoke coming from the motor or exhaust. Trans shifts fine too and the rearend looks like a Dana, but cant say for sure. Brakes all work fine too and car stops well. Needs at least 1 new tire. INTERIOR: as you can see in the pics below, the interior is in pretty nice shape for its age. No cracks on the dash and overall could be fine for a daily driver as-is. I could use a good cleaning, no doubt. Glove box door doesnt seem to shut flush, Im going to look into that this week. Latch maybe ? Windows all work fine and Doors open and close well and seem to align up well, meaning the hinges are in good shape too. Its far from perfect, but for an Az car this old the interior is pretty clean. No weird smells either Top part of the back seat showing the most wear and cracked apart from the sun . I do recall at the dr interior chrome door handle itself is broken, and the dr side rear door missing the window crank. Door pull on LF door worn too. Again, it could use a good afternoon cleaning too. Carpets not all that bad. Trunk has some surface rust, thats about it. It does have the spare wheel/tire but didnt see the jack components. Stock Radio works !! Exterior: the best we can tell you are looking at a car with most all of its original paint still from 1974. I did see where it looks like one small area was repainted at one time early on in its life which I think was the pass side rear door. The factory 2 tone paint is in really nice shape for its age (SNOW WHITE ROOF w/ DAISY YELLOW bottom) and a great color combo. The paint youll be able to see from the pics, has held up well. To keep it as a Survivor title, you could leave it as is and just drive and enjoy it, or maybe wetsand it and have it buffed out to really make it look like the late 70s again. Remember, its still a single stage Enamel paint which make it easier to buff out older paint thats losing its sparkle. MOST OBVIOUS DENT: while closing the hood a few yrs ago when the hinge was a bit dry, the hood was compromised on the pass side. Someone tried closing it with too much force and the hood bent on the factory crush zone spot. You can see it in the pics, please check it out. Some pics below where taken in cloud cover while some are in bright Az sun to kind of try and give you a better idea of the original paints condition. Best thing about the body its in really amazing shape with not even much as door dings on it. Even better the chrome and aluminum trim on the car are in really nice shape too. You wont see any pitting anywhere on the cars chrome or trim and there are NO SIGNS of any bondo on the car anywhere. Rust ??? not even in the equation, seeing as AZ cars rarely get rust and this car is no different. We show pics of the car where rust mostly occurs, under it ! Unlike most sellers who forget to post pics of rust prone areas, we do just the opposite. If we ever find rust on our cars, we and our buyers will ALL SEE It !! You wont believe how solid this car is if you buy it and would be the envy of all your car enthusiast friends as well !! Missing one of the original hubcaps. SUSPENSION: the suspension looks mostly original thus far, its going to need some restoration here, but its a good starting platform. Driving it around the block, it feels normal and good for a car this old, but handles like you may expect. Like a big luxury style sedan thats smooth and cushy ride :) Not sure if any of the bushings under the car need replacing, but Id guess some are going to need to be done during its restoration process. I guess you could even go up to some 17" wheels and tires too for a more modern look and feel, just depends on what your plans are for the car. PS works well and overall the steering also feels pretty tight and smooth. The factory PDB up front feel good too and stop the car well for a 40+ yr old car. Tires are all over 5 yrs old and once you replace the RF bad one, the others may be fine for around town driving. I wouldnt take any road trips on them until you had them all checked out first. This car is 90% rust free Arizona car Check out ALL the pics below -----> it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a slow connection, so be patient AND looks for the extra scroll bar on the right side, there is more info AFTER the pics etc. There are over 100 large pics. Our Impeccable FEEDBACK speaks for itself. Doing restoration on this type of project is less labor intensive which means overall cost is less too ! With less horrid surprises later on.
