Vehicle Detail

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa - Collector Owned - 15,978 Original Miles This beautiful 1986 Porsche 911 Targa is part of a 60+ car private collection in Austin, Texas. I purchased this 911 in October of 2011 for my personal collection. At that time, the car's odometer showed 15,767 original miles. Today the mileage of the car is 15,978 miles. The car was originally sold new on June 7, 1986 by Parker Porsche-Audi in Charleston, SC to a buyer residing in NJ. The original NJ title was issued on June 10, 1986 and the mileage was recorded as 22 miles at that time. On July 22, 1990 the car was sold by its original owner to the second owner, a collector who resided in Manhattan. The mileage was recorded at that time as 5,022. In June of 2002 the second owner moved the vehicle from his home in Manhattan to his home in the Hamptons. Shortly thereafter, an independent inspection verified the mileage as 12,127. The car remained in the Hamptons with the same owner through March of 2011, as verified by service and inspection records, when the owner sold the vehicle to a dealer with 15,236 miles. The vehicle was then displayed on two dealer showroom floors prior to my acquisition that October. The mileage and history of the car is supported by extensive CARFAX and AutoCheck service and inspection documentation that is available for viewing by potential purchasers. CARFAX shows an unbroken string of independent mileage verifications as follows: 06/10/1986 22 Miles07/26/1990 5,022 Miles05/20/2000 10,983 Miles06/16/2001 11,263 Miles05/10/2003 12,127 Miles05/29/2004 12,596 Miles08/12/2006 13,540 Miles09/28/2007 14,108 Miles10/04/2008 14,370 Miles 07/27/2009 14,531 Miles05/01/2010 14,768 Miles08/23/2010 14,922 Miles 03/03/2011 15,235 Miles03/14/2011 15,285 Miles10/11/2011 15,767 Miles As you would expect from an ultra low-mileage vehicle, the car is simply spectacular in every way - as close to a new air-cooled 911 as you'll ever find - and truly an investment-grade vehicle in all regards. Under my ownership, the car has been maintained at my private facility in Austin, TX where it has been serviced by my personal staff who maintain all the cars in my collection. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country tomorrow. Along the way, I'd make sure to stop by a few tracks just for fun and I'd do my best to find and enter a local car show (which I would win). I believe this car to be among the finest, if not the finest, air-cooled 911's available anywhere in the world. If you've been searching for a very special car, I urge you to consider this beautiful example. Further information is provided below. Mechanicals:The option tag shows the car to be well-optioned as follows: Code Description018 Sport steering wheel with elevated hub158 Monterey Radio241 Shorter shifer341 Central locking system395 Light forged metal wheels424 Automatic heating control454 Automatic speed control474 Sport shock absorbers (Bilsteins)C02 Equipped with catalytic converter The car starts, stops and drives exactly as you would expect. It pulls hard, and revs smoothly with excellent acceleration and the unmistakable whine only an air-cooled Porsche engine can provide The clutch is strong and the car brakes easily and in a straight line. There are no oil leaks or smoking from the engine. The car has never been involved in any type of accident or collision and is 100% rust free and as clean and solid as its low mileage suggests. Everything in the car works as it should - lights, switches, wipers, gauges, everything. The car is numbers-matching. All components of AC system are intact and functional although the car has never been converted from its original R12 and the AC system would need re-charging to function. The BF Goodrich G-Force tires are free of unusual wear or flat spots and show excellent tread. Exterior:From every angle, the car presents beautifully. The original, Guards Red paint is in outstanding condition - deep and glossy with no checking or signs of deterioration. There are no dents are scratches - not even a door ding - and the paint appears closer to 30 days old than 30 years. The rubber seals, trim, emblems, lenses and exterior hardware are all absolutely outstanding. The car retains 100% of it's original glass including its original windshield with correct, factory markings. The only flaw on the entire car is an approximate 1.5 cm light scrape on the front bumper that has been touched up. I have included a close-up photo of this tiny flaw. In my years of collecting classic Porsches, I have never seen a 911 of this vintage in more pristine condition or one that presents closer to new. The cosmetics of this car will exceed your expectations. Interior:The interior of this 911 is a testament to what original, low-mileage cars should be. The dash is perfect - free of cracks and showing no warping. The door panels are flawless. The controls and various switches are beautiful. The original leather seats are outstanding. The gauges are clear and bright appearing as new. The steering wheel is pristine. The Targa top fits tight and presents as new both inside and out. It shows no signs of ever being folded or stored for any period of time. The only modification to the car is a Nakamichi CD player and pair of upgraded door speakers that could be easily be returned to stock. The delicate and hard-to-find original door speaker grills are included with the car. I've taken the time to provide multiple, close-up photos of the interior from almost every angle. Please examine them closely and pay attention to the details. Yes, the big things like the dash, seats, and door panels all look excellent. But look even more closely at the small things. The interior details of this car are absolutely the best I've ever seen. I've included multiple high-resolution photos with this listing.
