Vehicle Detail
1961 190SL Mercedes BenzIncredibly well preserved survivor This is a highly documented car, service records go back to 1971!Has original PHH44 Carburetors. The current owner has had the car for nearly 34 years. It was purchased in Seattle WA on November 2, 1980. It was found the Seattle Times classified section. The previous owner was a local medical doctor. At the time of purchase the vehicle showed 92,640 miles on the odometer. Before his ownership, the vehicle is believed to have been owned by the original purchaser. The original purchaser resided in Arizona. The car was originally sold as a factory grey color. The first owner is believed to have changed the color to signal red, a Mercedes factory color. The current owner has had the car repainted around 1988. The upholstery including carpet, seats, and soft top, as well as the chrome were also redone at this time. The current owner had an issue with the door lock, and had it replaced. The new lock is not keyed the same as the opposite side, resulting in right and left door keys. A new steering wheel purchased from Mercedes was fitted to the car during the 1988 refresh. The vehicle has been stored in a heated garage for the past 10 years. During this time it has not been started. Maintenance receipts for the car date back to 1971. Receipts include records for work done by ‘Gubuerty’ mechanical shop including general maintenance and brakes. An electrical switch for ignition is fitted to the vehicle, we are not sure if this a factory feature. It has not been driven for the past 10 years, but has been stored in a heated garage. A little work is anticipated to get it back on the road. To test engine, I installed DCOE Webers, electric fuel pump and external gas tank, and had engine running. I have a video of it running. There is some rust in the floor pans, a patch panel replacement is recommended. Cleaning fuel tank, servicing carbs, and rebuilding brakes will likely be required to operate car. This is excellent concours restoration candidate or keep as is and have well preserved example of legendary Mercedes Benz 190SL.
