Vehicle Detail
1977 Porsche 911S Targa - Enthusiast Owned - 64,285 Miles - Dozens of Photos This beautiful 1977 Porsche 911S is part of a 60+ car private collection in Austin, Texas. Sold new in Tulsa, OK by Precision Imports, the original owner paid $16,235 for this car on January 26, 1977. After more than 25 years of ownership, the car was then sold to it's second owner, a physician residing in Branson, MO, with just over 50,000 miles on the odometer on July 26, 2002. More than a decade later, and now with just 64,000 original miles, the second owner consigned the car to the Branson Collector Car Auction where it was acquired on my behalf by a classic car dealer in October, 2013. Under my ownership the car has been stored in a private facility in Austin, TX sharing space with other collector cars from Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus and Aston Martin among others. The history of the car is supported by documentation that includes service receipts, registration and tax forms, and insurance documents dating from 1977 through 2013. Although incomplete, nothing in the documentation contradicts the mileage. In addition, the mileage is also supported by records of the 2013 Branson auction including a statement by the second owner confirming the mileage as original. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country tomorrow. Along the way, I'd make sure to stop by a few tracks just for fun and I'd do my best to find and enter a local car show (which I would win). The car is just that good. Mechanicals:The car starts, stops and drives exactly as you would expect from a car of this quality. It pulls hard and revs smoothly and the 915 transmission shifts as it should with no grinding or other odd noises. The clutch is strong and the car brakes easily and in a straight line. There are no oil leaks or smoking from the engine. The car shows no signs of prior accident repair and is 100% rust free and as solid its low mileage suggests. Everything in the car works as it should - lights, switches, wipers, gauges, everything. The car is numbers-matching as per the included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. In 2012/2013 the car underwent a thorough mechanical restoration, including an engine rebuild, at a cost of over $28,000. The work was performed by Precision Restorations in St. Louis, MO. Documentation of the work is included with the car. The thermal reactors have been removed from this car and a set of thermal reactor replacements installed. A pop-off valve has been installed in the airbox. All components of the dealer-installed AC system are intact. I've only recently charged the system and can verify that, at best, it "blows cool" on 100-degree Texas summer days. The system does hold a charge. While I have only driven this car a few hundred miles since I acquired it, I can honestly say that this car is among the best-driving vintage 911's I've ever owned. Every time I take it out it exceeds my expectations. It will yours as well. Exterior:From every angle, the car presents beautifully in its original color of Ice Green Metallic. The high-quality, professional respray is glossy and beautiful with no dents, scratches or even door dings. If you've ever heard good cars described as "10-footers" and great cars described as "5-footers" then this car is a 1-footer. Only upon the closest of inspections might you discover the tiniest of paint flaws or rock chips. The original finish was preserved in the trunk, engine compartment and door jams and the factory VIN sticker and assorted decals are all intact. Bottom line? The paint on this car is outstanding. Under my care, and at significant expense, the targa top on this car was professionally restored by targa top guru Dave Brown of Boulder, CO. It presents as new. The rubber seals, chrome trim, emblems, lenses and exterior hardware are all excellent. The car retains 100% of it's original glass including its pristine original windshield with correct, factory markings. Interior:The interior of this 911 is a testament to what original, low-mileage cars should be. The dash is free of cracks and shows no warping. The door panels are excellent and virtually flawless. The controls and various switches are beautiful. The original seats are outstanding without tears or damage to the vinyl. Even the original door pockets, among the most delicate of interior parts, are free of damage retaining excellent color and form. Under my care the sunvisors were replaced and the both the oil/fuel level gauge and the oil temp/pressure gauge were sent to the professionals at Seattle Speedometer for restoration as they were beginning to show some light fogging. I also replaced the trunk carpeting. I've taken the time to provide multiple, close-up photos of the interior from almost every angle. Please examine them closely and pay attention to the details. Yes, the big things like the dash, seats, and door panels all look excellent. But look even more closely ate the small things. The interior details of this car are among the best I've ever seen and one of the biggest benefits to purchasing a low-mileage example like this one. I've included multiple high-resolution photos with this listing.
