Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is the true definition of a Muscle Car from the pinnacle of that era, a 1970 BUICK GS 455 STAGE-1. Just to be clear this is NOT a clone, fake, or tribute car, and is one of only about 1,785 factory built GS hardtops with the 455 Stage-1 engine option and T400 trans. It was special ordered by the original owner in this KILLER Fire Red exterior with Pearl White interior and White vinyl roof color combo. Add the optional Chrome wheels and G70x 14 raised white letter tires that this car came from the factory with, and you had one super sharp and classy looking muscle car. Other factory options or features include, tinted windshield, PW, deluxe split bench seat with centre arm rest, front and rear floor mats, chrome door edge moldings, rear window defogger, A/C, interior quarter courtesy lights, deluxe arm rests, optional firm suspension, PDB, Cruise, Tilt steering, PS, map lamp on rear view mirror, tachometer, luggage lamp, rally guage cluster, am pushbutton with rear speaker, wheel opening trim, turbo 400 trans, and posi-traction rear end. Some history on this car as I know, is as follows. I purchased it in 2009 and have had it in storage since then. Prior to that this car was in storage since at least 1989, so about 26 years now. It was purchased in 1989 to be a restoration project, but it never got restored. Thankfully they left it alone and didn’t disassemble it like many people do. It sat in storage that entire time and was never driven or started. When I bought it 6 years ago I got it up and running to see where the car was at mechanically before I put it back into storage. So basically what we have here is a fairly original car (with documentation) that has been in storage since the 80’s and requires a full restoration. It does run and drive, but I would only do that right now to move it around the yard or on and off a trailer so to speak. This car has essentially not been driven on the streets since the 80’s. Even the tires are likely 30 years old or more, the black walls are bias ply. Now for the power and drive train. It appears to me that at some point in the cars life the short block was likely replaced and the rest of the parts swapped over to this block. From what I can determine the block appears to be a 72-74 455, but the carb, intake, heads, valve covers, transmission are all original to this car. Here are the following casting codes and dates I found. Block: 1241735 ZA 455 Trans: BB H163039 (VIN matches car) Intake: B1231718E K27 Heads: 1231786 K24 Chrome Valve covers: 1232069 (L) & 1232068 (R) Carb: 7040246 LK2639 Note the cowl tag shows the car built 10D (4 week of October 1969), so the casting dates above all look original to the car. Axle tube codes are difficult to see so I am assuming the original rear is still in this car. I see no signs of it ever being switched, it still retains the posi-tag, and it definitely has a posi as I turned the wheels to check. Also included with the car is the original Protecto-plate from the dealership in Assiniboia Saskatchewan where it was ordered from and sold new. Issues with the car that I see, both rear quarters and lower rear front fenders are bad (but typical). Also the front right bumper corner is tweaked and the right rear bumper is tweaked (see pics). The undercarriage has lots of surface rust and could potentially be thin in places, but I don’t see any holes or rust through anywhere in the panels or the frame. By the way I saw a number 9-19 on the left rear frame rail, which may indicate Sept 19, 1969 so the frame appears to be original. The bottoms of the doors and outer rocker pinch welds have typical rust but no holes. Hood and trunk lid look typical, as do the front and rear tubs and floors, and again I don’t see any holes. From what I can see without taking things apart, many of these panels are serviceable. The front seats have some rips in the seems and the driver’s side was repaired at some point. I also believe that most of the paint is original still. That being said I don’t want to oversell this car, and I am advertising it as needing a full restoration, so please keep that in mind. Note that I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. For anybody unfamiliar it’s about a 2 hour drive north of the Montana/North Dakota border. I have been advised if the winning bidder is from the USA it’s best to use a Broker to help with a smooth import/export transaction, and even better if the buyer does their own importing. In any case, I will help where I can, but any fee’s or expenses will be the buyers responsibility. As seen in the pics I have solid paperwork on the car, protecto-plate, and titled the car in 2009 to be sure there were no outstanding issues. Also the car was built in the USA. I can’t deliver the car so the winning bidder would need to pick it up or arrange for transport. I am a private seller and not a dealer. If you are looking for a fairly rare project to restore with factory color combo that is one of the most desirable on the market, that you know runs, and IS complete with many of it’s original parts, has not been “someone else’s project”, has world class muscle car appeal, came from the factory with a host of optional equipment, this may be the car for you.If you are interested in my car I have many more pics which I could not include here. They show more details like the door jambs, trunk lid etc, and I also have short video of it running. You can email me at mickeyg@sasktel.net for more pics or questions. Thanks for looking at my auction. On 14-Jun-15 at 16:18:03 EDT, seller added the following information: I just noticed something, as I could not include the pic that shows there is a spare tire in the trunk that is mounted on a chrome wheel like the others this car came with from the factory. So (5) chrome wheels in all. On 15-Jun-15 at 23:05:26 EDT, seller added the following information: I've had an inquiry about shipping. To be clear original instructions were that the buyer is responsible for vehicle pick up or shipping. Note though the car can be shipped anywhere, and not just Canada as the auction might indicate. It doesn't seem to let me select world wide. On 16-Jun-15 at 20:29:52 EDT, seller added the following information: I've had a couple people now ask about the condition of the dash and steering wheel. The dash in this car is real nice, in fact there is not one single crack in it. I wish I could have included more pictures that show these highlights, but I'm only allowed 24 and can't show all good stuff without the bad stuff. The steering wheel has a few typical cracks in it. I'd be happy to send more pics. If serious, shoot me an email.
