1981 Nascar (Daytona) Turbo PaceCar Firebird Trans-Am Sale Price starting at $6,000.00 Hello and Good Day! First to start, this Firebird is mostly all original and below are two different lists of what the car offers. The “Factory Plant Built Sheet” was usually installed behind the back seat fitted between the seat spring wires. The car comes with: The Original “FACTORY BUILD SHEET” that was usually was installed behind the back seat and fitted between the seat spring wires. The build sheet tells what parts and options the Pontiac Factory chose to build the car with. And, It looks like every option was chose to be installed in this car and it’s considered to be a Special Edition, Nascar (Daytona) Turbo PaceCar Firebird Trans-Am from the “Firebird Buyer’s Guide”, which I also have a copy of and comes with the car along with some other books I’ve collected that tells tons of info on all firebirds along with this amazing bird!! I bought the car from a car collector in Sacramento in 1998 when the odometer read 98,000 original miles on it. After having the car for a couple of years I decided to remove the engine to fix all the oil leaks. Well after pulling the engine I then thought well since the engine is out why not rebuild it, so I did. My thought was why not, I’m an exceptional aircraft mechanic. I also have all the receipts from the machine shop here in Reno, Nevada with me. The machine shop rebuilt the short block and cylinder heads. I then put together the long block, repainted the engine parts, repainted the engine firewall and fender wells, and then did the engine install. Along with the engine install, I installed lost of new parts and I also have all the receipts for the parts too in a folder. I installed a: New Battery, just installed May 2015 New Front Windshield with an FM Radio Antenna imbedded in the glass New Radiator New Alternator New Starter motor New Power Steering pump New Air-Pump for the Factory Smog device New Heater Core New Heater Switch relay New Computer for the new OBD connection New Map (Manifold Air Pressure) Sensor New head lamps New Hoses throughout New Master Brake Cylinder, New Power Brake Booster, New Brake booster Check valve not installed but new in Box I have Air Conditioning Receiver Dryer not installed but new in box I have a new O-ring kit to change over from the R-12 refrigerant to 134A Refrigerant. not installed but new in a bag, a New truck lid seal New Exhaust from the engine manifolds back. New catalytic converter and two New Hooker ArrowMaster mufflers that make it sound very subtle and smooth. Extra Parts that go along with the car. 2 full sets of Factory Turbo wheels in good shape. One white pair and one aluminum with not paint pair. I have three or four boxes of extra engine parts which include, air ducts that are the original air ducts for the air-cleaner and misc. door motors, door lock actuators an extra hood bezel assembly in good condition with no cracks or holes (just aged, because it was removed from another Turbo T/A) with the turbo LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH light indication for to show how much Turbo vacuum is being produced. A couple other instrument clusters that were pulled out of other firebirds. and other odds and ends for the car interior parts… I once had 7 firebirds and sold mostly all the parts I had, but held onto these parts for some odd reason as back up parts when the originals would fail. In the winter of 2003 the car was stored underneath a leaky car-port. It allowed the car to get a little filled with moister. The end result was the head-liner along with the door panels and floor board got water and moister damage. So need-less to say they don’t look in pristine condition and the headliner needs replacement. A year later I then removed the whole dash and all its components. I disassembled the instrument cluster, cleaned up the factory gages, replaced all the light bulbs, and restored it to a great looking condition again. I did a complete clean-up and lube of all moving components for the heating and air-conditioning switches and lighting. For example, even the original factory analog clock works, But from what I can tell I just can’t reset the time unless I took it to a clock specialist to lube the time adjuster. The condition of the trunk is not in bad shape. Although it does need to be cleaned up and repainted. The surface rust is from the original paint not being so thick and flacking off and from what I can tell it just needs to be treated by neutralizing the rust with some type of inhibitor and then recoated like any other older car that the original paint hasn’t been able to last for. The cruise control is not hooked up but it does have the switch on the starring column and I do have the bracket for the intake manifold. It just needs a new diaphragm installed along with the bracket and new hoses. The tires are in good shape are considered all season tires.. There the factory size which are the 225/70R15’s and have 75% tread on them. Both front seats are in decent shape accept the drivers seat has a small hole located at the front left hand lower back side cushion, made from the driver getting in and out of the car. And the back seat in good condition with no rips or tears or stains. The original Power antenna motor stopped working so I removed it from the front LH fender well. The Power trunk Lid actuator is removed also but the wires are still there and the button did work when I first bought the car. Since the rebuild, the car now has lees than 108,000 original total miles but only 8,000 or so miles on the rebuilt engine. The car runs great for the most part, but there is a few hick-ups here and there. Even though I rebuilt the original electric carburetor it’s a little temperamental and sometimes it chooses when it wants to have a reliable idle or not. I believe the main idle screw just needs to be turned up a bit. Also, The fan belt that drives the air-pump smog device squeals when the RPM rises about 2,600 or so. It’s pretty annoying and I believe the only way to fix it is to maybe just replace the belt simple or to take out the air-pump all together and run a different pully to bypass the pump altogether. As far as leaks, oil leaks and such.. That was purpose I originally pulled the engine out. Just lately though I noticed that the valve cover gaskets should be snugged down and they are starting to seep a bit. The transmission drive shaft seal seams to have a small leak also; lately I’ve notice no other leaks. For other maintenance that I’ve noticed. The original oil dip-stick should be anchored down to the cylinder head because the original bracket has been misplaced for now.. Also, the original throttle linkage was lost in the engine rebuild and when I moved it from California to Reno back in 2004 or 2005. So I made another throttle cable bracket. As much as I’d love to keep the car, I just don’t have the room for it anymore. It’s also been parked in storage for over 5 or so years total over the years.. In fact now I’ve been storing it in a storage unit for the past year. And I’ve drove it very little since owing it. I myself have only put on less than 10,000 miles. Don't get me wrong, the car is totally fun to drive and people compliment me on it all the time!!! The car handles great around corners with the large Front and Rear (Factory Installed Sway Bars.) I am not willing do much else to this car. The car is in storage and I’m actually reluctant to spend any more time or money but to just meet someone that’s paid for the car and to hand them the key’s and pink slip. What you’ve just read should be all you need to know. The car is not new! The car is 1 of 2000 that were made in 1981. The price is made for the condition and there is no haggling. I put lots of time and money trying to bring the car back to life. The car is 34 years old and looks in great shape considering..
