Vehicle Detail
Relisted due to non-paying bidder winning last auction. I kindly ask that you do NOT bid on this vehicle if you do not intend to purchase it. 2002 BMW e39 M5 with 143,810 miles. Mileage will go up, as car is driven. I am the third owner of this vehicle, which has always been owned by an adult professional. Never smoked in. Car was sold new from BMW of Peoria, Illinois to a physician, who maintained the vehicle and kept meticulous records, which are included. The car was traded at the same dealership on a new BMW, and sold by the same salesman to its second owner, a longtime BMW fan. This same salesman sold the vehicle to me approximately 5 years ago. Clutch was replaced May of 2010 with 99,128 miles. New flex disc on drive-shaft, guibo, less than 2,000 miles ago. Spark plugs and old crank vent hoses replaced at that time. Tires are in excellent condition. Have an extra set of BMW wheels with good snow tires. Car runs and drives flawlessly. I replaced the rear window trim this past fall, but discovered that this is a job best tackled in hot weather. I’ve tried to show where new trim is not completely seated. I have new trim for the front window, but it is still in the box. I was waiting for hot weather to install it. New front rotors and front brakes about a year ago. I have new pads for the rear, but they are still in the box. The front driver’s window has a slight catch in it. It does roll up and down, but you can hear a slight crack about midway up or down. Sometimes you have to give it a little manual assist. This just developed this past summer, but I haven’t had a chance to look at it. There are some minor chips and scratches, which I have tried to show, but nothing major. Car has aftermarket stainless mufflers and sounds mean. I didn’t think to ask for the stock mufflers from the muffler shop that installed the new stainless ones, so I do not have the original exhaust. Car has Eibach springs and sway bars. A little lower than stock. This car handles like a slot car. I have been very fortunate to have owned many nice cars that handled very well, Miatas, Porsches, Corvettes, etc. This M-5 handles better than any of my other cars. This car has not been tracked, but it would be a lie to say that I don’t engage in spirited driving. Valentine radar detector is hard wired and comes with the vehicle. No smokes or rattles, other than the typical VANOS start up rattle. Front power seats have not been repaired, so everything works except the tilt. This is a fairly easy repair, but the seats must come out. You can find videos on You Tube on this problem and repair. The seats are very comfortable to me, as is, so I’ve never fixed them. There is wear on the driver’s left side bolster, but not bad. See photo. Interior is in otherwise very clean, good condition, as is the exterior. There are no burned pixels in the dash, with the exception of the screen for the radio/navigation. I show this in the photos. There is a check engine light that comes on intermittently. It came on the morning I was driving the car to the office, but then went off on the way home. I read the code and there is an emission device at the rear of the vehicle that should be replaced. I priced the part on e-bay, but never repaired it. It does not affect the way the vehicle runs or drives, and the light is intermittent. I have strong reservations about selling this car, but I’m also trying to sell my house, which includes a large shop and four car garage. I simply can’t take everything with me. In a recent publication of Car and Driver or Road and Track (I take both), they compared the e39 M5 to the new Chevy Impala SS V-8. They liked the 12 year old M5 better than the new Chevy. When you drive this car, you will understand why. It has a feel like no other. There is very minor curb rash on one of the powder coated wheels. Please refer closely to photos for details. If you need a photograph of a particular area, let me know and I will try to either upload that photo, or send it to you privately. Original books, window sticker, keys, and all paperwork included. These keys have factory integrated batteries that cannot be replaced. One of my keys is brand new, so no problems with remote door locks, etc. Car sticker price was $73,120.00 back in 2002. This car is SOLID. I can assist with transport, but transport of this car is the buyers’ responsibility. I am an attorney, not a car dealer. This was my personal vehicle. Clear title in hand. Not interested in trades. Please ask any questions before bidding. Buy-it-now price will disappear once reserve is met. Also, car has been in the garage for most of this winter. I merely brought it out for these photos, so it may appear a little dirty. The car is in very nice condition. On May-18-15 at 06:26:39 PDT, seller added the following information: If you have poor feedback and/or zero feedback, I would kindly ask that you contact me before bidding. Otherwise I reserve the right to cancel your bid. In looking at the ad, all of the photos I attempted to upload did not upload. I have photos of the book of records and the original window sticker, keys, etc. I do believe that I have photographed all areas of the car that show wear. It is a good looking and driving car. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. The closest airport is XNA, if you wanted to fly in and drive it home. Thanks.
