Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190D, 4cyl. 2.2L diesel, 4dr sedan. This vehicle was a one owner, South Dakota, vehicle. The original owner passed away many years ago and it has been setting in a garage since – when his wife passed away a few years ago the granddaughter inherited the car and I purchased it from her. The vehicle was last licensed in 1987. All appearances are that he had taken very good care of this car and I believe it to be 100% original, numbers matching. I will give you the best description of the car as I can. The body is in overall nice original condition – there is damage on the left doors and rear quarter panel but can be easily repaired. The left rear blinker light assembly and lens is broken. Left front fender marker light lens/cover is missing. The floor pans and trunk floor are not rusted out – could only find two small rusted out spots just behind the front wheels in lower corners. The odometer reads 96,000 miles, the family has no idea whether this is 96K or 196K? I cleaned out the fuel system - fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel filter, and fuel strainer to see if I could start the vehicle but could not get the starter to work. I do not know anything about Mercedes or diesels! I was able to turn over the engine so it is not locked up. The clutch pedal goes to the floor, it is a hydraulic clutch and it must have a leak because the reservoir is empty. Overall, the engine compartment is very clean indicating he took good care of the car – what you see in the photos is how it came out of the garage, nothing has been cleaned! The front bumper has one rusted spot on the right corner – the rear bumper has a big dent on the left corner and couple of small dents – overall good condition to use as is or very good bumpers to restore. The grille is in very nice condition – it does have one very small crack (1/4” long) on the drivers side lower hood corner – the hood emblem is missing the center. The headlights/bezels are nice, outside trim is in good condition. It still has the original working wheel jack. Windshield has two bb gun holes. Original hubcaps in nice condition. The top has some paint missing and is rusted but it is not damaged. Interior is in overall very good condition. The seat upholstery has a lot of tears and sun damage and would need to be replaced – the padded dash is cracked. The door panels, door hardware, door glass is in very good condition. The dash with original gauges are in very good condition. Appears that everything is in working condition – radio works, heater/AC fans work, lights work – steering wheel horn button plastic attaching screws are broken. Vehicle sold “AS IS – NO WARRANTIES”. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET! Send me a message if you have any questions. Vehicle sold as “Local Pickup Only” but I could deliver to Rapid City area when I’m going that direction for a small fee. If vehicle does not sell as a whole, I will be parting it out later this year.
