Vehicle Detail
I have up for auction my daughter's 2002 Ford Escape XLT with 135,642 miles and an engine that needs to be replaced or overhauled. She loved this car and planned on keeping it for several more years, but while returning from a trip to the store (while she was home for Spring Break) the spark plug blew out. We had it towed the mile to our mechanic and he gave us the bad news that there was some kind of damage to the cylinder and the clicking noise and low compression indicated a major overhaul or another engine is needed. Although the price he quoted us for putting in another engine was reasonable, I decided to pay it off so my daughter could get the title from the bank and list it for sale. With two more tuition payments and my wife's surgeries these past 3 weeks, the better option for us was to send my daughter back to college with her mother's 2001 Ford Escape. She can buy her own car when she starts working this Summer. The irony of this situation is that the 2002 Escape has been getting the very best of care. We are the second owners and have continued to give it excellent care. (AutoCheck and my research indicated the first owner was faithful to maintain the car.) It has General Grabbers Tires with just over 9000 miles on them, recent tune-up with gas filter, wiper blades, etc. The air conditioning is excellent, and the transmission shifts smoothly. The springs groan the first few minutes it is driven, but my wife's red Escape has done that for most of the 14 years we have owned it. I would rate this car an 8.8 on both the interior and exterior, and for that reason I would hate to drive it to the wrecking yard down the road to get my starting price. Someone with a mechanics skill or with automotive connections could have a nice Escape for a bargain price. The bad plug was repaired with a kit, so the car can be driven down the road enough to test the transmission, the air conditioning, and cruise. The buyer should plan on a car hauler to pick it up, or it could be driven onto a flat bed trailer. If the buyer does not pick it up, they must arrange shipping and I will make myself available to the shipper. I would like a 200.00 PayPal deposit in 48 hours and full payment in cash or money order within 7 days. I am confident enough that this car is one of the nicer looking early Escapes, and if the buyer feels my description and photos were not accurate, they can change their mind when they come to pick it up and I will refund their deposit. This car has been to the Ford Dealership for all the recalls and I tried to make it as safe as possible for my daughter. It has made dozens of 100 mile trips up and down the Interstate cruising smoothly at 75 MPH. (For over two years) I hope someone can get it back on the road as it could be a good car again.
