1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC Up for auction: NO RESERVE !!!!! NEW DEVELOPMENTS- MOTOR RUNS but STARTED SMOKING REALLY BAD TODAY , SO I STOPPED THE OLD AUCTION AND NOW RELISTING IT WITH NEW INFO. AFTER LOOKING AT IT MORE TODAY I THINK WE HAVE IT NARROWED DOWN TO A VACUUM MODULATOR ON THE TRANSMISSION. THE SMOKE SMELLS LIKE TRANS FLUID, SO IM GOING TO TRY TO FIND ONE BY MONDAY OR BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS TO UPDATE THE AD FOR EVERYONE WATCHING. AMG SWAP IT MAYBE NOW OR GM LS MOTOR or COBRA MOTOR 4.6 RESTO MOD MAY NOT EVEN BE NEEDED , YEAH !!! This is a really cool and somewhat rare Benz The 107 chassis has been proven to be a well built long term vehicle. The SL Model was so successful, that the SLC hardtop only version was actually built for Rally Racing in which it did very well for its time. this isnt the ultra rare 450SLC 5.0 - but its the next best thing :) The rarity of the SLC 450 models here in the US is pretty well known, and this car is a bit of a survivor. Its only been in CA or AZ its whole life and has no rust on the body or floors we can find. (see pics below for yourself) I believe the 82k aprox miles to be original too. Back in the 80s it had an AMG body kit installed (or one similar) but I recall it looking like the AMG pkg, still has the period correct Centra 31 polished 16" Alloy rims and Nardi wood steering wheel inside the cockpit. This car also has the Euro headlights which are a cool option. A little history about this car, the last owner was an older man who wanted to restore it. He bought it back in Nov 1994. Back then the paint was nicer and the interior was as well. He quit driving it in the early 2000s and it sat for a few yrs. In Dec of 2005 he took the car to a local Euro Car shop here in town and spent about $1600 getting the car read to go back on the road. (see reciepts) He drove it for a few yrs and then it sat again in around 2013. When we got it, we drained the gas tank, flushed the system and put in fresh gas and new fuel pump. It fired up and ran great for a few weeks BUT WE DROVE IT TODAY AND IT STARTED SMOKING LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN !! IT WOULD DRIVE ONTO A HAULER ETC BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE MOTOR NOW, AND ITS SMOKING VERY BAD !!! cracked ring maybe ? MAYBE TIME FOR AN LS GM SWAP ??????? DRIVETRAIN: under the hood is the original matching #s motor 4.5 V8 and automatic trans. Engine SMOKES bad... just started doing it today while moving it around the parking lot, left a trail you could not miss , almost couldnt see the car when it was sitting in on spot lol. Good news, the trans and rear end feel ok still haha. Fully loaded car as you may expect, but we didnt try the AC to see if it works yet. Oil was amazingly clean too. The old school original period correct Centra Type 31 rims have some decent tires left on them too. The rims could use a good polishing again. INTERIOR: original leather interior, showing its age , but would restore easy enough and not that costly during a nice restoration. Luckily restoring the leather on these cars isnt too $$ and if the seats where redone some minor stuff inside the cabin where fixed it would be pretty done. As is its fine for a daily driver, but it can use some work keeping in mind the cars not been restored. DR SIDE BOLSTER IS BAD At one time someone did install an old school alarm under the dr side dash and not even sure if its functional, but they didnt do the best job I think. I may carefully try to remove the system and extra wires this week, but If I do, its just to clean up some of the wiring under the dr side dash area. Factory sunroof is cool, Im just trying to figure out what switch on the dash opens it and or if it works. Keep you posted on that one. EXTERIOR: very straight RUST FREE Ca/Az body . Prob about the most rust free SCL youll find for a price close to our reserve. The flat black looking paint you see is actually old Acrylic Enamel paint from the 80s that is so oxidized, its flat and thin too. The color use to be a Dk blue. The roof and door are so bad that its cracked like a puzzle. I dont see any previous body damage or repairs ever done to the car so Id consider the body to be really straight for its age and making restoration much easier. ALOT Of these cars did get rusted out over the yrs and this car being an AZ / CA car only (not near the ocean) the body is rock solid. The chrome and stainless on the car are in amazing shape as well. SUSPENSION: the suspension is basically all original and stock Steering feels tight and car goes down the road quiet and straight. Brakes feel good and I think I saw Bilstein struts on each corner. Personally if I kept the car, Id lower the front or possibly the whole car a little more, yes. The period correct 16x7 Centra Type 31 rims are rare and still look classic on this find. This car is 95% rust free Arizona car LOW RESERVE , so low Im sure it will be hit, then the real bidders can battle it out in the end. ONLY bid if you are serious about buying the car. I do email bidders to see if they are legit too, if I get no reply, I have to cancel your bid, period.. Check out ALL the pics below -----> it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a slow connection, so be patient AND looks for the extra schroll bar on the right side. Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate. more info AFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics. Hope you like the detailed pics There you have it, probably The BEST represented BENZ's on Ebay. Shows you all the good as well as any bad, hope you appreciate them. We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows. People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, it still beats paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end. Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days speaks volumes. Also, if you buy a car thats been "restored", who knows what sort of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating. People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are fast, for a quick buck and quality suffers. Dont you wish EVERYONE put up pics like this in their auctions, but They dont, but it sure makes it easier to bid on ones like ours who show the most detail of what you are possibly buying. Our auctions have NOTHING to hide . Restore a car like this yourself or locally and you know exactly what you have in the end. Email us with ANY questions before you bid please If you treat yourself to buying one of our vehicles youll never buy a total rust bucket again from anyone !! Dont let auctions with little to no pics try to fool you. With other auctions, you really dont know what to expect until you take the car apart. While we go over our cars ALL OVER with great pics to help making your decision easier. Along with ANY other questions you may have. Email me for a quote for shipping. Or fly in and drive it home, its that reliable and clean. Clear ARIZONA TITLE IN HAND I wont end the auction early, but if you have an offer sure, let me know.
