This is a 1965 230SL which has 81526 actual kilometers which can only be verified based on previous owner’s description. The story on the car is that it was brought in to Montrose PA area in 1965. It stayed in the original family till 2003 when it was purchased by one of our customer from the estate. This customer saw the car stored in the family barn since the early 80's. (in the same barn was a 1964 GTO with 50k miles, also in white which we later tried to purchase unsuccessfully in 2005, that car had low mileage and was in similar condition to the 230SL). It had been driven sparingly or not at all during 1980-2003. The customer finally bought the car in 2004 and towed it to us. It did not run and went thru an extensive mechanical restoration. It was driven approximately 5000 kilometers from 2004-2014 where it was traded in. It was re-sold to another individual who could not complete the restoration. We finished what we were paid for and decided to sell the car.
The car has the following items either rebuilt or replaced as follows: shock absorbers, brakes front and rear, calipers and brake cylinders, fuel injection pump, rebuilt cold start valve, new gas tank, fuel pump, fuel hoses, distributor, distributor cap, spark plugs, distributor rotors, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, brake booster, master slave cylinder, brake master cylinder, windshield washer pump, water pump, left Bosch horn, fuel pressure regulator, all 6 injectors, ballast resistor, spark plug wires, radiator recored. Brake hoses front and rear, parking brake, manual steering gear box, tie rods, Sumitomo 205/70/14 tires with excellent tread, new battery, new factory exhaust back to the header pipe.
This car is correct mechanically, runs and drives excellent. Steering response is tight and brakes are excellent. Acceleration is excellent. Brake do not pull, vibration etc. the window on the drivers side is loose, but rolls up and down. This is a rare manual transmission and manual steering car.
Radio is original and works, under dash panels have not been disturbed, no additional wiring for aftermarket amps, cut outs are not present.
Cosmetically the car has decent chrome but pitting and wear are beginning to show. The car was repainted in original 050G white, top is in 040G black, the paint work is excellent, but rubber seals were left alone and are original. Gap line up is good, fender spot weld are present on right fender, left fender may have been replaced at some time but work is good. There is no unit body damage from an impact. Radiator core support has some rust, right front floor board very small rust spot as shown, rear thrust arm area has rust as shown, minor rust on left thrust arm area as shown , headlight buckets are solid, floor boards are solid, trunk is solid, front frame rails are solid, rockers are solid, no undercoating hides any items. The reason for the excellent paint and the undercarriage not completed was the lack of funds from the customer backing out of the restoration. We have tried to show all imperfections. The engine bay is immaculate, proper cadmium plating, detailing is close to show level.
The soft top has been patched as shown. The soft top latches properly, hard top latches properly. The soft top is original Mercedes. Rear plastic glass is not torn.
Oil leaks, none visible from head gasket oil pan etc, fairly dry, rear differential very small leak at the pinion seal. Does not leave any drips on floor.
Does not have books or support documentation for mileage verification.
Interior is 100% original, The rare interior rubber floor mats are in very good shape, carpet is worn on right side as shown, chrome on interior trim is very good to excellent, gauges all work, heater blower motor works. Glass is excellent. Wood is in good shape, all original un-restored.
