Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1962 Corvette convertible hardtop. Car was originally a 327/300HP, now has a 350 in it. 4 speed transmission, but I do not know if it is the original trans. I have owned the car since 1988 or 89. I (you can't make this up) purchased the car from "little old lady from Pasadena." She was I believe the 3rd owner. It was painted competition orange, since repainted to the (wrong for the year) red with white coves. The car was originally a Sateen Silver car, somewhat rare for 1962. It is a blast to drive, and a constant head turner. The rear end is pretty low, likely 4.11 or 3.73's. It's a bullet off the line but doesn't have a great top end, not that I'd want to go 100MPH in a 50+ year old car. Car has the original exhaust manifolds, 3797901 and 3797902, the seats look to be original factory material and are in fantastic shape. I have driven the car very little during my ownership. Probably 40 miles round trip to a local car show about 10 times in the past 25 years, and a dozen or so runs to get burgers. I have no idea the history of the car prior to my acquiring it, but it has led a very protected, event - free life in my garage the entire time. Car has factory wonderbar radio and clock, and seems to need very little to restore to a very clean respectable factory car. It has a hood scoop on it that actually looks pretty good now that it's red, but of course not original. Rear end straps are intact, as is pretty much all of the car. I was considering restoring it to a not quite NCRS top flight car, but I just don't have the time. To my eyes, it needs the following to make it a very clean "original" restoration - door panels, ignition shield set, steering wheel, factory wheels, covers, and tires, body gaskets and weatherstrips, stock hood, repro air cleaner, antenna, carpet, hardtop, dash pad, and valve covers. That list on the Corvette America website totals about $6,000. Add a silver paint job, and it's 90% restored, and only the real enthusiasts will notice the other 10%. I also know a place that has an original correctly dated block for sale, which could be restored and stamped to create a "numbers matching" car. I believe the concept of stamping correct dated blocks for these old C-1 cars is now accepted and not considered "cheating" in competition judging. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I will not be shipping the car, but will gladly work with your shipping company.
