Vehicle Detail

1973 VW THING Turbo Charged Mazda RX7 engine. This is a extensively customized 1973 VW Thing. I'm not sure of all the detailed specifics of the build because I received the car in a trade but I can say that this custom buggy was built with very little expense spared. The most obvious and major alteration made to this classic is the Mazda turbo charged rotary engine. I can not give you the specifics of the turbo but can tell you that when you "step" on the throttle the power is right there, when you "stand" on the throttle the Thing is a little rocket. The turbo has a very distinct sound as does the waste gate. I could just imagine how it would be out on the sand or off roading. The transmission I do believe is from a Type 2 VW transporter, CV joint style. Tranny shifts smooth through a custom Empi trigger shifter and the hydraulic clutch feels strong. Brakes stop on a dime, slotted and cross drilled disc brakes on all four corners. CNC Hydraulic pedals under dash for the brakes and clutch, also hydraulic steering brake controls located between seats. Suspension has been raised front and rear. Custom top and full roll cage has been installed including light bar. The roll cage features side bars, cross bars and gussets. Bf Goodrich All-Terrain radials on the rear with 15x8 multi piece high end Centerline/FMS wide five aluminum racing wheels. Fronts are 15x6 with off road radials also. Front trunk compartment now holds the custom aluminum radiator that also features electronically thermostat controlled fans, (there is also another support transmission fan located in the rear engine compartment). Matching bucket front seats are done in a very user friendly tweed. Six point harness/safety belts for both front seats. There is a basic back seat in place with not much leg space and no harnesses. The fuel cell is located behind the rear seats. This is definitely a one of a kind sand/off-road toy. The body and paint is beyond presentable. There are a few chips in the paint and a small dent on the passenger rear fender. The "Thing" does need some attention to make it perfect. The car starts, runs, and stops perfectly. Lights all work but I'm not sure of the condition of all the electrical, the wiring could use some attention. The speedometer isn't hooked up so I'm not sure of the mileage or how fast this thing really goes. The thing is currently registered and I have a clear California title in my possession If there are any specific questions or photos you may have or need I will do my best to answer them. This is a fun and exciting project that I would love to enjoy but due to my age and some health issues that won't allow me to actually take this VW out for fun I must let it go. I reserve the right to end the auction early due to the fact that it is advertised locally
