Vehicle Detail
Up for sale today is a very rare and solid 1957 GMC Big Window Pick up truck needing full restoration. It has very rare features as follows: Deluxe Cab with Full Stainless Trim, Side Mounted Spare Tire, Chrome Grille, Front Bumper and Headlight Doors. Originally equipped with a 347 V8 Engine and 4 speed transmission, both which are now missing. Still sporting the original Front and Rear California Black Plates which were installed on the truck when it was brand new, Built at the Factory GMC Assembly Plant in Oakland CA. Over the years, I've owned several 1957 GMC Trucks of all different levels and are very familiar with them. They are quite different from Chevrolet Trucks with many extra features unlike the modern trucks of today. This particular one has always been California driven in a dry, rust free environment. When it left the factory in 1957, it was originally a very beautiful color combination of turquoise and white and shows no evidence of ever being abused or beaten to death as most old trucks are. The GMC was always considered the wealthy "Gentlemen's Truck" compared to Chevrolet and other models as this one was ordered with many upgraded features and rare optional equipment such as the Big Window Deluxe Cab with full Stainless Moldings, Side Mounted Spare, Chrome Grill and Bumper, 347 V8 Engine and 4 speed transmission. After many years of ownership, the original owner changed the color to red and white and drove it that way for several years. Within the last 5 years, the previous owner was planning to have it painted once again and it was professionally primered at an auto body shop then painted temporarily by the original owner himself with what looks like gray house paint to protect it. The truck was never finished so it was tucked away in a dry garage for restoration at a future time. The body on this truck is very solid and straight without big dents, twists, damage or evidence of heavy usage. The bed box, bed sides, tail gate and forward bed area beneath back window are all in very good, straight, rust free condition showing no signs of damage from heavy use or rolling objects. The bed floor has a piece of sheet metal bolted down to where the original wood is located. There is a tiny hole in one cab corner and a tiny spot on the cab floor but both of these can be easily patched. It has 4 excellent tires. This is a very rare truck and would be an excellent candidate for an easy restoration of any level - low cost or full frame off. All of the important and exclusive GMC parts are included along with correct and original instrument cluster. Other parts are very easy to locate and most all are now offered as excellent new reproductions. I had planned on locating an original 347 V8 engine to put it back to original condition or in the mean time, thought I would install a later model V8 engine with automatic transmission. To make the truck even cooler, I was thinking about installing a NAPCO 4WD unit as original set up's are available and would add tons of value to the truck. Unfortunately, I have too many projects at the moment and just not enough space. Auction prices for this model truck in restored condition are bringing upwards in the $60,000 range. This truck, especially with it's rare features is very hard to find and is highly sought after by those who collect and restore classic trucks. I'm sure you know this if you are reading this far. Unfortunately, I have too many projects in the works and not enough space to see this truck to completion. Clean California Title in Hand. Thanks for your interest!
