Vehicle Detail

Up for grabs is a very rare 1946 Chevrolet 1/2 ton Canopy Express. This truck spent most of it life as a painting and wallpaper / decorating truck in Connecticut USA. It was brought to California about 10 years ago and I acquired it about 4 years ago.. This truck is mostly original except for the tailgate which I had made from a 1946 Suburban lower clam shell tailgate. It had been stored at our Art Deco Museum San Clemente, CA. We are "thinning the heard" as we ease into semi retirement so that is why it is up for sale. This is a special truck that you will not find every day. Chevrolet did not make many of these to start and few are left running and driving. This truck is in running and driving condition and can be driven home by the new buyer. We use it weekly for our "shop truck". This is a model 3107 1/2 ton with a 115" wheelbase. The vin is 3DPH-9241 and had a base price new of $1126.00. The vin shows it was made in the Saint Louis MO plant. These trucks shared a lot of parts with the 1941 & 1942 Chevy trucks. Here are some of the improvements we did:4 New Coker tiresNew bushings for sway barNew spring shacklesInstalled a new complete wiring harnessNew bushings in clutch pedalNew motor mountsReplaced the original engine with a rebuilt 1941 216CI engineInstalled a rebuilt carburetorNew brake wheel cylinders and flexible hoesRebuilt the master cylinderNew brake linings and turn drumsChanged all fluids Radiator flushed, new thermostat and hoses.New fan beltConvert to a 12 volt systemNew batteryInstall new electric wiper motors, arms and bladesInstall a rebuilt 12 volt alternatorNew heater hosesTune up with new points, condenser, plugs etc.Install rebuilt windshield regulator.Built new tailgate from Suburban shellManufacture steel patch panels for interior and exterior of rear bed and wheelwell area.Reupholster two panel truck / canopy express seats, sand blast and powder coat frames , new green vinyl fabric.New gaskets for engine top end.Chemically dip has tank and seal, new neck hose.New horn relayInstall new windshield rubber, side window run channels & wipes.Much more small rubber parts.Sprayed portions of the truck with color matched #267C Brewster green paint (extra included in sale), enhanced patina. The truck is one of the most reliable in our fleet and starts right up and runs out well in 1946 Style. It has a three speed witch works OK....I put a upper shift spring and bushing kit in it. Syncros are old but work well. The wheels look to 8-slot GM wheels from the 1937-38 trucks, I liked the looks of them so I kept them on the truck. All the gauges work except the speedometer which does not have a cable. I will get a speedo cable installed before you pick up the truck. The car is over 62 years old and is sold "As-is, Where-is" with no warranties expressed or implied. Please ask questions BEFORE bidding.....and you can also call us at 949 492-8702 to ask questions. The new owner should be prepared to pay a $500.00 non refundable deposit within 24 hours of the auction end. The balance will be due no later than 7 days from auction end.The truck will need to be picked up within 30 days of auction end.We are glad to export this car.....international buyers are responsible for the cost of any paperwork or shipping. The truck has a clean and clear California Title in my name, the car is registered and insured in California with 1945 YOM California plate with a 1946 tag . These plates are not included with the truck and can be purchased separately for $300.00. The heater works great. It has the rare deluxe "Whip" antennae. The radio does NOT work...for show only. Lots of fun accessories like the Hull compass, column mounted flashlight, single King Bee fog light (not working), accessory radiatir overflow tank (show only) dual horns...they work. It took 60+ years to get this patina.....enjoy the ride....prepare to get a crown wherever you go with this.
