Vehicle Detail
I took this 1989 Dodge D100 in on trade with intention of scavenging parts for two other Dodge diesels of this vintage that I am building. However, after driving it home for 200 miles, I realized that it is just too good to use as a parts truck. Anyway, the truck is in great shape and the pictures go a long way in supporting that opinion. The body has some dents and dings and some flaking paint, but there is no rust and the frame is great. The truck rides and steers great and is quieter inside than my wife's 2008 Mazda. I drive it to work and it sees 30 miles each way of interstate speeds of 65-70mph with no issues at all. The "Maint Reqd" light stays on. However, only the dealers could reset it on these trucks and it came back on every 3500 miles. Take the bulb out if it bothers you. After driving for about 30 minutes, the check engine light comes on. It goes back off by itself or at the next cycle of the key. The code was for EGR valve. I removed, tested, cleaned, and reinstalled the EGR with a new gasket. But, I have no way to reset the code. A new EGR and gasket is under $100 and takes 10 minutes to install. However, I don't believe there is anything wrong with the original. Also, the code will come back even with a new EGR unless you know a dealer with the reset tool (none around here can do it anymore). The A/C is all there and appears in good condition...but it does not work. I have not diagnosed the problem. The heat and all controls work great. And don't let anybody tell you the A/C "just needs charged"...that is BS...it's a closed system...so that means at some point it leaked or the compressor clutch isn't engaging. Anyway...it could cost you from $60 to $1000...so keep that in mind if you need A/C when you bid. This truck does have the rocker panel vent on the drivers side...which is AWESOME and I wish all trucks still had. With it open and all the window venting options, not having A/C is not a killer. Anyway...that's your full disclosure. The interior is excellent with a perferct dash and door panels. The gauges all work, as does the AM/FM. The headliner is perfect and the carpet is excellent. Except for the windshield, all glass is excellent. The rear slider locks and works properly, as do the vent windows. The inside of the bed is in great shape. The suspension and brakes are excellent. I have pulled a 2800 pound trailer over 200 miles with no issues. The truck has the upgraded premium chrome bumpers front and back. The transmission shifts properly and the truck gets over 14mpg in mixed driving. Although I offer or imply no warranties or guarantee of any kind, I believe that you can drive this truck home anywhere. Trailer it if you want, but it should not be necessary if you want to drive it home. I have included numerous photos that paint a good picture of the shape of the truck. Clear TN title in my name. Truck is registered, insured, and driven regularly.
