My son and I bought this 71 Ranchero GT to restore - as I really didn't like him driving a small Honda Accord. The previous owner was a Mr McQueen (see title picture) who lived in Marrysville, Ca (near Beale Air Force Base). He was a very polite older gentleman who explained that the 351 Cleveland had been rebuilt to stock specifications, a couple years before the car was put in storage, about 11 or 12 years ago. Although there did seem to be a charging problem, the engine sounded ok - so we brought it home, changed the oil, replaced the battery, alternator, and voltage regulator, then topped off the other fluids and prepared for a test drive. The car ran and drove great! The power steering and power brakes worked well too. Rather than performing a full tune-up, all we really had to do was simply clean out the two barrel carburetor with some gum-out spray - and the car still runs great, and usually starts on the 1st crank. Unfortunately, our son started having second thoughts about this Rachero, even after I installed a couple interior floor patch panels (with correct stamped pieces), applied a POR-15 coating to the entire interior floor, installed new carpet, had the seat re-upholstered, rolled on a paint-in bed-liner, and then had the body repainted 1969 Mustang Fastback Blue at a friends paint shop. The nine-inch rear end and C-6 transmission work flawlessly. I thought he would surely love the way this GT came out, but our 19 year old son decided that his new German car would help him get to college classes better, and he actually paid for it himself - shortly before this one was done. Glad I didn't yet replace the cracked wind-shield or make any other major upgrades. So, my loss is your gain. This Rust Free California Ford time capsule from Mr McQueen - can now be yours.
