Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on an absolutely pedigreed E39 540i sport in mint condition. I am a doctor but my true passion is cars, so I spend a great deal of time caring for my cars, and it shows. I am very busy so I am going to try to give an exhaustive description of this car to encompass all that I would want to know if I were considering the purchase of this car perhaps sight unseen. Who am I? My name is John and I am a doctor in Santa Barbara California. My cell phone is 805-560-3704. I am seeing patients most of the day, but if you text me, I will do my best to get back to you in a timely fashion between patients or after work. Why am I selling? I spent the better part of 18 months looking for the perfect E39 540i 5 speed and when I did find it (in my back yard) I spent the next 6 months making it more perfect than it already was. I love this car, but my brother in Denver (also a car fanatic) is parting with his 2003 E39 M5 and I cannot let it leave the family. His M5 will be transported to me next week so my 540i must go to a new worthy steward. History of the car? The car was purchased by it's original owner in 1999, a Japanese mechanical engineer who lived in Montecito. He was an absolute car fanatic and maintained the car to near perfection. He had no kids and no pets--a very nice bonus for me. He weighed 155 pounds so the drivers seat and side bolsters looked like they were never sat in…another huge bonus for me. I found the car on the BMW CCA website and when I discovered in was in Santa Barbara, my search was over…especially when I laid eyes on it for the first time. The car has never left California. Mechanical? The previous owner maintained the car at the BMW dealer only, and I have done the same. I have one mechanic and one mechanic only who works on my cars, and he has known this car since it was brand new. I will furnish his contact information to any interested parties who are serious about buying the car. The car runs flawlessly and doesn't leak one drop of anything. The valve covers rare perfect--look at them, not a single wrinkle, crinkle, or flake--you will not find another 540 engine bay that looks like this. Major tune (schedule II) was done at 79k miles and included all fluids, plugs, brakes, any anything else it needed. I have all maintenance records. The car is literally turn key. Body? There isn't a single ding, dent, or scratch on this car. The original owner never once took it through an automated car wash and I have continued that pedigreed care. I consider myself a semi-professional car detailer, so a typical detail for me includes: Last Febuary: washed car with chemical guys soap and wool wash mitt. dried with microfiber towel from Griots. Clayed the car with Griots fine clay and speedshine lubricant. Polish with fine cut Menzerna (at low speed) German polish to flatten any orange peeling or holograms. Finish with Wolfgang carnuba--don't need synthetic wax in Southern California because the elements here are mild at best. The result is that light dances across the paint and there aren't any holograms, spider webbing, or oxidation in the flawless clear coat. Dare I say it, it's the nicest E39 that I have ever seen, and I go to Octoberfest every other year. Modifications: To make the car look like a quintessential E39, I ordered OEM E39 M5 front and back bumpers from the dealer and had them painted and installed. They look gorgeous. I also had a Magnaflo exhaust installed, and to balance the look of the back, I put in a dual exhaust. Other than that the car is bone stock. Leather: Perfect! The seat are made out of real leather, not the synthetic vinyl they throw in modern day BMWs. I treat it with Leatherique bi-yearly and I myself only weigh 150 pounds. Even then, when I exit the car I gently lift myself over the sports bolster so I do not put wear marks on it. The back seats have been sat in a hand full of times, so they look brand new. Seats are heated of course. Wheels? The wheels are the OEM style 32 wheels and they are in perfect shape. They balance perfectly and look great. The gunmetal sets off the Alpine Silver. Tires? 70% and even wear; balanced perfectly. I don't drive the car daily, so when it sits in the garage, I park it on rubber pads to prevent flat spots. I told you I was a fanatic. Clutch? It is the original clutch but catches low and has absolutely no slip. Car has never been driven aggressively so I presume many many years to go on that clutch. Smoked in? Never Does it need anything? No Would I drive it across the country? Absolutely!! Will I end the auction early? sure--call me. for the right buyer who is serious I'm all ears. otherwise this car is sold at NO RESERVE On Nov-06-14 at 18:04:27 PST, seller added the following information: This is 6 speed manual (its is the same transmission used in the e39 m5) not a 5 speed. In fact this car was the percurser to the 2000 e39 m5. The car looks brand new. It has always been garaged and covered in the garage. The paint is called alphine silver (very rare and only 250 in this color in manual were ever made). The paint changes color with the light... much cooler than plane silver. On Nov-07-14 at 14:08:28 PST, seller added the following information: If interested I can email better pictures. These pictures (poor lighting) really do not show the beauty of the car.On Nov-08-14 at 14:14:12 PST, seller added the following information: color is aspen silver (not alpine silver). Also I forgot to add that the first owner installed OEM "angel eye" head lights. ($1700 upgrade). Headlights look amazing at night.
