Vehicle Detail

This is a beautiful '86 700 with a few choice modifications, 21,724 miles, well cared for with complete service records dating from 1990. Always professionally serviced and stored indoors. To my knowledge I'm the third owner. The previous owner bought it from a personal friend. A midwest machine, stored winters, always adult owned, this bike was not abused. Original condition and parts with the exception of the following: Yoshimura slip-on in excellent condition, Dyno-Jet jet kit, K&N air filter (new), Fender eliminator kit by Competition Werkes, Flush front turn signals, Smaller LED rear turn signals. (I have the original rear fender and a set of OEM turn signals if desired) Serviced, inspected and detailed -- ready to go: Carb cleaning, Carb sync, Compression check, Spark plugs, Fuel filter (OEM), Fresh Bridgestone BT-45 tires, 17-tooth front sprocket to slightly lower RPM, Hydraulics flushed; brakes & clutch, Calipers bench cleaned (pads are nearly new), Fork fluid flushed, Charging system checked, Coolant flushed, Oil & filter (Honda GN-4), Detailed and paint buffed. The bodywork on this 700 is beautiful, especially the fuel tank, with only a few nits on the side fairings. I would give the cosmetics a 9 out of 10. The alternator & clutch covers, for example, are nearly perfect -- hard to come by, in my experience. Excellent seat and rear seat cowl. Mechanically a 10. The bike starts, runs, brakes, handles as it should. The engine pulls hard and very smooth. Very effective performance mods. The bad: At some point a battery leaked onto the right-side swing arm and left some stains; the aforementioned small fairing crack (plastic-welded from the backside and touched up), and some light staining on the rear wheel (see photographs). A great survivor, no disappointments. I can deliver within 200 miles of Antioch IL for no additional cost, or will assist with buyer's shipper. Clear & clean WI title, no issues. https://www.flickr.com/photos/125316412@N06/sets/72157646610326293/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9bAuH7-c28 On Nov-07-14 at 11:54:43 PST, seller added the following information: I was asked by a bidder about the 700/750 comparison. Here's my response: "Well, I've had mostly 750s, but have never been able to tell the difference. The downsizing to 700cc was achieved via a stroke reduction from 48.6mm to 45.4mm which should produce a slightly quicker windup through the RPM range. I once came across some published figures on HP and torque but I don't recall the actual numbers, though it showed a reduction in both. This particular example pulls very strong and I think it would edge past my last 750, surely due to the performance mods; air cleaner, jet kit and Yosh. Even though I changed the gearing, I can't tell a difference from the 750. After nearly thirty years an individual VFR's performance will reside mostly in that particular bike's state of tune. That's why I start off my rescue with a compression check and go from there. I'm a fan of originality, but this bike's sound and smoothness really add to the V4 experience. This VFR would be an interesting candidate to get some dynamometer numbers for. In my opinion, these bikes are not in it for drag racing in any case, but were engineered for the total package. This was borne out by something like ten years in Cycle World's Ten Best list. If you ever get ahold of a copy of Julian Ryder's Honda's V-Force book, it has some telling history of Honda's intentions, efforts, successes and failures with the whole V4 line. Interesting reading, detailing a soulful heritage that the GSX-Rs of this world will never have." Good luck with your bidding. Joe
