Vehicle Detail
We purchased this vehicle after searching of nearly four years to find a station wagon for our fire museum's project that was to make a replica of a 1968 Ford Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief's "Buggy" (photo #19) to use in parades, fire musters and other local events. This would have been a great addition to a family of restored and replica CFD buggies around the country (photos 20 &21). Our project stalled when we lost access to a storage and restoration facility. It is just no longer practical to pursue this project since we cannot afford to pay rent to keep it out of the weather and secure. We do not want it to sit outside in the weather--this is too good of a vehicle to let it succumb to nature. As stated, this was intended to be a Restoration Project--the car needs body work, some repairs (clock, fan and wiper switches need to be reinstalled, headliner stitching opened, a small opening in the stitching on the front seat, carpet, door handle button needs to be reinstalled, etc., etc.). We already began purchasing some of the items needed and these will go to the successful bidder: tail light lens, both parking light lenses, a passenger side view mirror, and some other minor items. This can be a fun car for someone who wants to dabble with a project and run the car around to local car shows, fire department parades or other nostalgia type events. Although the motor and transmission sound good, I just don't recommend that it can be used to take the family on a cross country vacation. It is registered as "Historic" in the State of Maryland and for this reason, we haven't put more than 50 miles on the car since purchasing it in July. This car had only one previous owner who babied this thing for more than 45 years. He just went into a nursing home and the family provided my with a stack of maintenance records found in an old folder. The care for this car was unbelievable! The money spent on regular service to keep it in perfect condition over the years is also unbelievable. The maintenance records date back to January, 1996 (see photograph #18) and everything about the car has been placed in a single 3-ring binder. The vehicle has 275,606 miles on the chassis but only about 40,000 on the motor that was put in June of 2001. The tires are in great shape and all the fluids and lubes appear to be up to date. On Oct-20-14 at 15:07:29 PDT, seller added the following information: This vehicle does not have an existing warranty. I apologize for letting that slip by.
