Vehicle Detail
1976 Porsche 912E. Black on black, 2+2, 5 speed manual transmission. Mechanically sound and maintained by a local European import shop. Same mechanic has performed all work on the car for 18 years. No air conditioning, power windows or seats. I was told when I purchased the car that the engine was rebuilt at 75k miles. Car currently has 151,349 miles and had 90k on it when I purchased it. Car has been maintained with Swepco synthetic oil since I've owned it. Tires are Goodyear's and have decent tread left. They were replaced a few years ago. Front seats have sheepskin covers and the dash is covered as well. The car needs a paint job as you might expect. There is paint chipping on the front boot and there are indications that there may have been previous body work or a paint job done prior to my owning it. There is a tear in the headliner that was already stiched when I purchased the car and the insulation in the engine compartment has long since come out. I upgraded The factory radio with a Blaupunkt stereo with in dash CD. I also replaced the ignition switch with an OEM switch from Porsche in Germany so the doors and ignition remain keyed the same. The turn signal relay was also replaced. A couple of years ago, my mechanic and I searched for replacement heat exchangers for over a year but could not find any so he bypassed the left one as it had started to leak exhaust. I see a set is currently offered on ebay for $350.00. In addition, I see a 912E engine only offered with heat exchangers for $7k. I purchased this 1976 Porsche 912E 22 years ago while on a trip to San Francisco and Napa Valley California. I saw the car on a lot in St. Helena, took it for a test drive and purchased it the following day. I then cashed in my plane ticket and drove it back to Illinois. The car easily got 800 miles to a tank of gas and lived up to Porsche's intention of designing a fuel efficient car after the oil crisis of the early 70's. It was my plan to begin a restoration project but time didn't allow and the car remained garaged for four years. In 1996 I moved to California and had the car shipped back by a transport carrier. The car has remained garaged for the past 18 years and driven lightly and mainly around the local San Jose area. Due to current financial difficulty, I can no longer afford to keep the car garaged and hope I can find a good and caring home for it. I've set a minimum bid of $7000.00 with no reserve. Payment by Paypal or bank wire transfer will be accepted. If wire transfer is preferred, I will provide wire instructions upon request. $1000.00 will be due within 24 hours of successful bid. Buyer is responsible for shipping if necessary. I will assist shipper as needed. Good luck bidding. On Oct-15-14 at 14:16:47 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I have many inquiries regarding rust and other condition. I took more pictures and have uploaded them to Dropbox. They include pictures of the rocker panels, the underside and the underside of the engine and transmission. In addition, I took the seat covers off and photographed the seats. I found that there is a tear in the back of the drivers seat. I never knew as they have always been covered with sheepskin covers. You can see the images here... I took the car to my mechanic this morning and had it smogged. It now has a current California smog certificate that is good for 90 days. I also took the certificate to CA DMV and it is all good with them. All registration and title is clean.
