Vehicle Detail
This is a VW THING, Acapulco Edition, made for the U.S. market. The VW plant in Mexico started making the VW Thing Acapulco Edition for the Las Brisas Resort. They made 100, but they became so popular, the Mexico plant made several for the U.S. Market with the Acapulco Blue and White paint scheme. These are extremely rare. This 1974 VW THING, Acapulco Edition is very unique and rare. The other VW THINGS made for U.S. export, other than the Acapulco Edition were painted, Sunshine Yellow, Pumpkin Orange, Avacado Green or Blizzard White. The difference in this Acapulco Edition made for the U.S. Market and the 100 made for the Las Brisas Resort is it has no running boards or blue and white sorrey top (which can be purchased). When selling to the U.S. market, the suspension was changed to the Porsche IRS Rear Suspension. This THING is equipped with an Oil bath Air filter, convertible rear seats, which convert to a flat storage area for hauling. It runs perfect and starts with one turn of the key. It comes with driver and passenger front glass side windows, front fold-down glass windshield, removable vinyl fabric canopy with back window and removable side curtains. It has 5 x 205 white rims, and new 15" tires. Comes with custom tow bar. The doors can be taken off and windshield folded and snapped down and you have an instant Dune Buggy. This particular VW THING Acapulco Edition had 49,264 original miles when we installed a 1775cc engine. It runs great. A friend of mine was the 3rd owner. The 1st owner purchased it in 1974 and sold in 1977 to a Dr. in Colorado who owned it until 1999 when he sold it to my close friend who towed it to the mountains every year and used as a pleasure vehicle for riding around in the pines during the summer and then towed it back to the valley for covered winter storage until the next summer. Having lived its life in the Desert Southwest it has very little rust and any that there is is only minor surface rust. As you can see from the pictures, the body is in great shape. Clean AZ title.
