Vehicle Detail
This is a 1972 Triumph Spitfire that I combined with a Geo tracker. My dear wife named it the Trackfire. Very drivable. This was my every day transportation for several years! I was driving from York, PA to Reisterstown. MD - thats 40 miles each way on expressway and back roads. Runs along 75 - 80mph no problem. If I kept my foot out of it I could get about 25 mpg, but usually I was getting about 22mpg. Runs on regular, but happier on premium fuel. Now it is mostly my winter car. It is unbelievable in the snow :) The chassis and gearbox/transfer case are from a 1989 Tracker. Engine is from a 1993 Tracker A pair of 40dcoe side draft Weber carburetors and a Thorley exhaust header. Modified the distributor for more mechanical advance because the Webers have no provision for vacuum advance.Lightened the flywheel and had it balanced. Front brakes are from a 4 door Tracker a bit larger than the 2 door brakes. The differentials are from a 96 automatic tracker 4.30:1 (this is the tallest gears I could come up with) most trackers are 5.125:1 Adapted a rear sway bar from the front of a TR7, this helped a lot. Its still a little twitchy in the rain in two wheel drive. This car is fun to drive. The instruments are a mix. The speedometer, tachometer, fuel and temp gauges are adapted from tracker. There is a Stewart Warner oil pressure and vacuum gauge and a Smiths voltmeter. Electrics - Yeah the wipers, lights and horn are still Lucas and yes I have had the wipers quit in the rain - had to overhaul the wiper motor :) I change thermostats from summer to winter for better heat. It is kinda drafty around the tops of the windows at 80mph. Drive it home or across the country. The hardtop is removable and I have a frame for the soft top, but no top. There are a few rust spots and a few dings. Please ask your important questions BEFORE you bid ;)
