Vehicle Detail
We purchased this camper van in January for a family road-trip from an elderly gentlemen estate. The road-trip didn't materialize as I'd hoped and we stayed in an overpriced cabin during our memorable trip to Yosemite. I did however prep the van before including new belts, new water pump, a brand new Sony stereo (with USB and aux inputs) to compliment the amp, subwoofer and four interior speakers. So from audio stand-point, vehicle is set. Your welcome :) The van's interior is in great shape and shows very little wear. It's an unusual and cool layout with an open center to move around freely. Seats 4-5 adults comfortably to relax and converse and not feel cramped. There are tons of lights, multiple 12volt outlets (and even a few household outlets that I haven't figured out where to connect to the van...lol). The bed quickly changes from a bench seat to a remarkably comfortable flat bed, it is not lumpy with seat belts stabbing your back like a typical conversion van. There are pop out windows on the side and 3 sliding windows with screens and privacy curtains all aroundA curtain rod in the back for hanging your clothes. A fully insulated ice box (looks and acts like a refrigerator but takes no power, 2 frozen gallon jugs of water and keeps your food and drinks cold for a few days without power or propane) A sink with faucet (automatic) with a freshwater tank (maybe 10 gallons). Sink can be drained directly outside or recovered under the sink in a separate tank. Makes for a tasteful low-profile stealth camper, work-trips, a night out, local beaches, or a family guest and kids in your own driveway. It's a great color combo with a warm and cozy interior No vomit colors of the era ("Puke brown, Barf pink, and Vomit Green" and the like). It doesn't have any cheesy graphics or peeling script letters and looks very tasteful. No one associates it with a camper van which is great. And with five seat-belts, it's useful and cool to take on a weekend outing our family sports trip to see a football game and tailgate. My kids love it but we just purchased a RV that takes up half of our driveway so something has to give. Van motor runs strong with no overheating issues, etc. Van has a fresh 700R4 overdrive transmission that works great. The overdrive really helps with mileage on road-trips (averages about 17 mpg on open road) which is really pretty awesome for a vehicle with so much practicality built in. Registration is currently paid California through 2015. Van passes all visual equipment test but did not pass the tail-pipe emissions test. The EGR intake runner is blocked up by carbon (very common) and affects the smog test readings. Kind of funny because most people (outside of crazy CA) opt to just put a plate over the EGR anyway... and the van has done it conveniently for you. Van runs great and is most happy on the road. It was just driven 1200 miles from San Diego to Monterey (South of San Francisco) and back without a hiccup. Has a 'salvage' title from the old owner bumping the back tire into a tree and the insurance being happy to write it off the books. The small dent in the door is barely noticeable and has no impact on the doors and locks operation, spare tire or weather. All doors and locks operate correctly with the key. The AC did get cold when I charged it, but there is a leak in one of the lines right behind the grill (right at the threaded connector) and the Freon leaked out. If I have an opportunity, I may address that before sale. There are no funny smells as the vehicle was not a daily. Outside some wear in the carpet by the gas pedal, there are literally no stains or anything unsightly to discuss. The paint is and body are pretty decent. It could use a good coat of wax and some love as it hasn't seen very regular use. It could use some front tires, which if you are planning to drive it home on a road trip, I will make sure are accommodated. I really want to see this ol van get a good home, I'm kind of sentimental (probably more mental) like that. Happy bidding. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will answer promptly. Vehicle is available for inspection before auction end, but please ask and/or inspect before auction ends. Bidder with less than +10 feedbacks, please contact me before auction ends or I may cancel your bid. Lastly, please bid with confidence. I rarely sell things on e-bay (please DO look at my feedback as a seller!). When I do, it's usually a vehicle (like 6 or 7 in 13 years). I always try to be communicative and helpful and bend over backwards to ensure you are happy. It means a lot to me that I find my mechanical friends a good home. On Sep-27-14 at 19:11:36 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a couple details to add: *Van has 2" hitch with electrical connections *No rust issues on vehicle. *Conversion was performed locally in San Diego (El Cajon), so always been a San Diego vehicle *May assist with delivery as been looking for an opportunity to visit a friend in Texas. Would consider driving to Dallas area if that's better for you for delivery/shipping *Yes, those are two covered outside electrical outlets (on driver's side rear) which compliment the outlets inside. On Sep-30-14 at 23:10:31 PDT, seller added the following information: So just an update on AC system as I’ve had some inquiries. I tightened the noted loose connection (threaded) on the AC line behind the grill. The van was then taken to a shop and the system was vacuumed, pressure tested and filled with freon ($140). The system got cold and has been holding pressure for two days now. It sometimes has a mind of its own as it seems to work and then stop for a bit and work again but definitely gets cold. I will keep an eye on things and ensure it continues to hold the Freon over the duration of the auction. The good news is the AC system is intact and seems to be functional. The selector for heat however “Vent, Heat, Defrost” is stuck on defrost and not changing even though the controls operate smoothly. The mechanic says the small vacuum line from the engine (baseball sized vacuum tank under the hood) is not connected to the inside of the van (it has a plug in the line from the small line from the vacuum tank). Anyway, apparently the vacuum line to the control on the dash needs to be connected somewhere but he did not see where it goes under the dash to the AC controls. The mechanic seems to think that if you track down the vacuum line from the tank to the selector switch, it will probably work ok as it is defaulted in the Defrost position by design for driving safety. So be aware, at the moment the heater and AC only blow on the windshield (defrost). On Oct-02-14 at 18:49:55 PDT, seller added the following information: The latest: AC: REPAIRED. I repaired the hose connection and then took it to a professional mechanic for pressure testing and charged. The AC was indeed cold but intermittently quit working after a while. The Freon was not leaking. I investigated and noted the AC would turn on or off if I pushed on the low pressure switch connector. I replaced the switch today and in ran continuously for an hour in almost 100 degrees heat. The AC was blowing at 61.5 at the vent on the road. Vent Controls: REPAIRED I located and replaced the hose from vacuum tank to the firewall connection (behind the windshield washer tank if you care). Air conditioning, heat, defrost, vents, etc ..all controls work well . Took the van to an exhaust shop who confirmed the catalytic converter was indeed bad (hence the failed smog). I had the converter removed and a straight piece of pipe installed. It is very possible the van would be purchased out of California and not required anyway. A new Magnaflow converter can be installed for around $200. I have fixed most everything mentioned with the exception of replacing the front tires which are totally fine for getting you wherever you need to go. I would just to say that this is a neat old van that will clean up nicely with a good detail. Just understand there are a few suspension creaks but the van drives straight and you really only hear them on city streets. I had it checked out today at Big O Tires and confirmed that the van is indeed safe to drive… but a suspension rebuild kit may be in your future (parts are $180 on ebay). Oh, and maybe a driver’s door gasket J Happy bidding.
