Vehicle Detail
Up for sale at NO RESERVE is a 1977 Impala 4 door sedan that was actually won on The Price is Right by my great uncle! This is a one owner car that has been garage kept in Whittier, California all of it's life. This was my great aunt's car. She drove the car only locally and they occasionally took the car on longer trips to see relatives in northern California. The car was very well maintained up until 2003, when my great aunt started became very ill. My great uncle had the car serviced completely, all necessary work completed, and put it in his garage, never to see sunlight or be run until earlier this year. That is where we come in. My aunt passed some years ago, and recently my uncle. My cousins didn't know what to do with this car and a 64 Ranchero, so they decided that my 80 year old father should buy them. Well, my father really didn't have use for the cars, but since they twisted his arm, he paid them way too much for them and took possession. Now the work began... This is 250 inline 6CYL car! with A/C, Automatic, AM radio, power steering, power brakes, etc... no power windows, locks, or cruise... A typical game show give away car! My father, a long time mechanic and restorer from 50 years ago decided he had to get this car running. So, he performed the following (with my help): Cleaned fuel tank New fuel lines - complete New fuel pump Professionally rebuilt Carb. New battery Oil and filter change New power steering pump and hoses New A/C belt New complete distributor New spark plugs Complete new rear brake system Flush and refill cooling system with new coolant New coil New air filter Complete front end clean and greasing Removed and cleaned/checked front brakes- pads were new New door striker bushings Etc.... The car had new shocks, transmission service, tie rod ends, and a couple other things before storage in 2003. I have driven this car a little just locally and it runs really nice and smooth. Has far better power than I would have expected from a 6cyl. Pulls just slightly to right, but just a little. Might need alignment? Tires are good. No real rattle or squeaks, a very tight car. The paint is original and very clean, with the exception of the right front fender that was repainted when the car was about 2 years old due to a parking lot scrape (per my second cousin). It looks fine. Nice Chrome and trim. There are some various little door dings and chips, but nothing major. The interior is original and clean showing pride of ownership. However, it is starting it's 70's GM plastic deterioration as expected. Carpet is thin and there is a some fading and a crack or two on the dash, even though it has been covered with a dash mat most of it's life... Can't beat that 70's GM quality! The rear plastic bumper valance is cracked and aging but still holding in there.. All gauges work, as does the A/M radio. The ventilation works well, but the A/C will need re-charged. The compressor turns by hand fine. The engine bay is original. My father decided he didn't want to dunk it in water, so he just dusted it. You can see how clean it is and it has never been washed or de-greased... All in all, if you are looking for a clean, retro old Impala with the thrifty and rare 6 cyl. this is it. So. California original one family senior owned. Not mint, but better than most. It actually does draw attention when you take it somewhere. I think it looks vintage in the white with white wheels and whitewall tires. Has a very clean look. Again, this is owned by my 80 year old father, who absolutely didn't need it and can't use it. So, it has to go! He really overpaid and invested a lot in this car.. Why??? He didn't know any better. I am just trying to help him get some money back, that he couldn't afford to spend and get it out of his driveway. This car DOES drive nice and can be driven away. We have driven it about 40 miles and it seems fine, but I don't know if I would drive it across the country... That is up to you. Due to the death of my great uncle and my second cousin taking care of his estate, the title was not found.. However, her name was on title with his. She went to AAA and with help, obtained and properly filled out a "paperless or duplicate title" form, of which they said was a legal method or sale and transfer. If you are a California buyer, you will be responsible for smog testing. It has all of the proper OEM equipment including the OEM cat and the exhaust has literally no odor, so all indications is that it will pass fine, but that will buyer's responsibility. Also, last registration was 2003, but currently on non-op, so no back fees.... Unfortunately, My father at his age decided that the complete box of every registration, repair receipt, etc. was not essential, so he threw them away... arghhh.. But the owners manual is in the glove box... Sorry history collectors. I guess when we get older, some things are not seen as that important anymore. REMEMBER, THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION. HIGH BID GETS! ALL OF THE OLD ITEMS IN THE TRUNK GO WITH THE CAR. It was in there for years and my father thinks somebody might want it... Thank you
