Vehicle Detail
2006 BMW K1200GT Runs Great! 61,958 miles I bought this bike in August of 2012 in Tennessee and rode it home to Colorado. It was awesome! I've owned BMW R1150R, R1150RT, R1200RT and R1200GS but wanted to try a K-Bike. I love it but the dreaded ABS light came on just after my return home and then the clutch starting shifting heavy. It has been sitting in my garage on a battery tender ever since. Now, I'm moving and am just going to sell this bike. It has had a lot of the common issues fixed.....READ ON! The Good:- Runs great--fires right up and runs smooth and cool.- Has Corbin front and rear heated seats (Over $1,000 seat!); Original seat included too- ESA- Cruise Control- Heated Grips- Adjustable Windscreen- Hyperlights (new and installed)- Martin Fabrication halogen front lights (new in the box)- Complete BMW synthetic oil change kit goes with the bike (oil and filter about $70)- Metzler Road Tec Z-8's (front has several thousand miles left on it, rear has about a thousand left)- In 2009 (at 37,000 miles) had the Clutch Basket replaced under warranty campaign along with new clutch line, discs, and oil pump sprocket (I believe this fixed a common oiling problem for this bike)- In 2011 had the cam chain guard (updated version) and chain tensioners replaced ($486)- In 2011 new Z Technic V-Stream Windscreen ($239)- In Aug 2012 had a new entire rear drive installed (parts alone on that was $1,693)- In June 2013 I had all open recall work completed while I had the dealer diagnose the ABS fault The Bad:- The ABS unit has a recurring fault. Sometimes it will go for 20 minutes or so without an issue but it is only a matter of time until the flat light comes on. Dealer diagnosis states "Internal ABS fault, 6234, stored and recurring fault." It also notes "wiring tapped into front harness, wiring damage." I think the previous owner had put front driving lights on the bike and tapped into the harness and we all that is a no-no with BMW harnesses. The dealer could not say, or would not say, that the harness was the problem rather they said it was the ABS unit. - The clutch had gotten very heavy--hard to find neutral too. Dealer said when the clutch was replaced in 2009 that a spacer was left out. They put the spacer in but it is still "stiff" at the foot lever (not an issue at the clutch lever on the bars). It also has some drag in it when you put it into first gear. Is OK when it warms up but not good when cold. Dealer said a new clutch would be required to fix this. - A couple of scratches here and there consistent with a bike this age. A few marks on the bottom right side faring from a no-speed tip over. They were touched up with blue paint and really don't show unless you bend over and look. A few scuffs on the bottom of the bags. Overall the paint still looks really good. I rode the bike a few weeks ago--no issues until about 15 minutes into the ride and the ABS fault recurred. Clutch was OK once warmed up as noted about. I've been waiting on Module Masters to get the servo ABS rebuild kits done and it looks like they will have them this summer. They already have a repair for the newer (non-servo) units. Their site lists the price for a rebuilt servo unit at $750. I just am not going to wait any longer given my upcoming move and I also don't want to bypass the ABS which some others have done. So, just need to sell this and move on. To summarize, the bike needs an ABS control unit and a clutch. I have receipts for all the items mentioned above. - Sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. - I will help with your shipper but will not pay any shipping. Help meaning I will get the bike to a local dealer for you shipper to pick up. Plenty of shippers out there for this so over to buyer to do that leg work. - Look at my feedback--I take this serious and always describe my listings properly. Please ask questions. Clear title in hand. Thanks for looking and good luck.
