I have decided to sell my car collection in order to purchase a vacation home. If I was not purchasing this home, none of my cars would be for sale. I acquired this 1985 Porsche Carrera from an “ESTATE” approximately 1.5 years ago. I do not know much history on the car other than the following. The husband had died of brain cancer. This car was is pride and joy. He had restored the car approximately 9 years ago which included new (original color) paint, restored Fuchs, restored suspension, engine and transaxle rebuild. The paint is of decent quality and shines very well. The ODO shows 117,000 yet the mileage is unknown due to the owners passing. The car is a blast to drive. It drives straight as an arrow. Although the suspension is lowered to European ride height, the suspension has full travel and handles extremely well. The car feels very tight and solid. The doors shut with a thud. The transmission shifts smoothly except for first gear. I suspect the 1st gear synchro is slightly out of adjustment. When coming to a stop you have to push in the clutch a couple seconds longer. I personally can drive the car with ((0)) grinding. The engine runs very strong and does not miss or smoke. It pulls through every gear like a Porsche is expected. There is a stainless performance exhaust which has an incredible exhaust note. The mileage of the engine and transaxle rebuild is unknown. The interior looks fine except for a rip in the seam of the lower seat cushion drivers seat. The passenger seat has been recovered. Rear seats are in good condition. The replacement for the fine SC, the Carrera had a larger, 3,164cc flat-six that made 200hp, which was bumped up to 214hp for the final two years of production. Its integrated electronic ignition and fuel-injection system made the engine both more powerful and less thirsty. Like its predecessor, the Carrera 3.2 was available in Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet form, with a five-speed the only transaxle available. In the beginning, the Carrera could be ordered with the Turbo's flares, whale-tail and front spoiler extension; in 1985, the Turbo-Look became a regular model. Here's what the choice among 911s comes down to: SC or Carrera 3.2. "The Carrera is going to have all the refinements over the SC, and it's going to be a few bucks more, too, so it really depends on what you want to get into at the entry level," John said. He suggests, "shop around and really have yourself a budget as far as with each particular model. If you really have your heart set on a Carrera, you know, great--you can still find some good deals out there, you know?
