Vehicle Detail
... " Quick ! Call Barber Motorsports Museum...someone has stolen one of his Hondas..".. as overheard during a show. The back story: In the mid-sixties (1967-70) while attending college in So-Cal I had a red 1963 305 Superhawk. A great bike that handled many trips between Los Angles and San Francisco. Never an issue with the bike. I can also attest that, on many weekends, with a little tweak of the timing, carbs, and exhaust the bike could reach 100MPH. Fast forward to today. I own and operate a small motorcycle restoration service specializing in XS 650 Yamahas (marks650yamahas). I will take on other projects and assignments on a case by case basis. My paint work has been award winning at events across the country for my customers. To bring the Superhawk back to the day it was uncrated started with the frame sandblasted, epoxy sealed and covered in red. The red is correct to the model with several coats and a clear coat after color sanding. The silver is a soft gloss. All chrome parts have been re-chromed including a NOS exhaust system. The gauge chrome was also re-chromed along with being rebuilt by Foreign Speedo Service, San Diego, Cal. It has new rims, spokes and polished hubs. The engine cases were split and internals inspected. Cylinder bored .50 over. The head was rebuilt by a trusted friend who not only shares his enjoyment of old Hondas but has built several Bonneville Speed week motorcycles. This motorcycle was entered for the first time in June 2013 at the Viking Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club National spring show. It won its class (Junior First) with 99 points out of 100. The award and certificate will be kept with the bike. I have shipped motorcycles across the country and overseas. For those who would prefer a sealed crate I can provide one.
