Vehicle Detail
This is a 1966 GMC Handi-Van. This is a short wheelbase cargo van that is VERY original. This model was only made for 3 years with the flat glass front windshield, from 1964-1966. It still retains its 1972 and 1974 city stickers from a small town here in Missouri, where it resided for many years. It has an inline 6 with a 3 on the tree. It starts, runs and stops. It had a Missouri safety inspection, and was on the road last year. I am calling this a running, stopping, drivable project van. As you can see from the photos, the body is VERY straight, but it does have rust on the rockers and the doors. The inside bottoms of the cargo doors are the worst, but can be repaired. This is the original paint and patina, and it matches all the way around, so it definitely looks as though it has NEVER been involved in a wreck or an accident. Awesome original light blue color. The interior has only one seat, which is the driver's seat. It is not original to the van. The inside of the van is VERY clean. The floors are very solid, and are NOT rusted out. It does come with a matching Kraiger spare tire & wheel, which is also vintage, just as the other wheels are. Non-original parts on the van right now are: mirrors, wheels, radio, seat, under dash gauges, and CID distributor. Fuel system is good-to-go~it has had the carburetor rebuilt, gas lines cleaned or replaced, where needed, and gas tank flushed and cleaned. The engine is old~it does smoke a bit on start-up, and does have some lifter noise, but this is the original motor to this van. The battery is less than a year old, the tires have good tread, but are not a matching set. They are, however, matching sizes. All the glass is in very good shape, and is original. The driver's door vent window handle is broken off, but I DO have the handle in the glove box. The passenger door window crank handle is missing~I do not, and have never, had it. I have driven the van locally, but never on long trips. If the winning bidder lives locally, it can be driven home, but if he/she lives farther away, I would suggest trailering it. Overall, this is a very original example of a virtually unmolested GMC Handi-Van. These have become very rare, and are even more popular now, due to being forever immortalized as the Mystery Machine on the Scooby Doo series and movies. From 1964-1966 GMC and Chevy together, only manufactured a total of 8,100 of these vans. Only 2,500 of these were shorty cargo vans. This van is being sold in as-is, where-is, running condition.
