Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1998 Triumph Thunderbird. The 70s Superbike Retro Model of the late 1990s. Water cooled, 900cc, overhead cam motorcickle. If you are looking at it you probably know all about it already and are shopping for one. I bought this bike brand new in South Carolina in early 1999 with no miles on it. I proceeded to ride it for about 25,000 miles over the next four years after I moved to California. I put another 6000 miles on it in the next ever how many years that makes. It was my daily transportation for two years solid. I wish it could recount the tales of my adventures. When I bought it they told me it had a 100,000 mile motor on it without any major mechanical overhaul. So far they are right. It has never let me down and has been a rock solid bike. I would put new tires on it tomorrow and ride it across the country without hesitation. It was regularly serviced throughout its life and has had a valve adjustment in the last 1700 miles. It also had a carburettor overhaul when the valve adjustment was done because of a leaky o-ring. It needs an oil change in about 1000 miles and it needs a new front tire desperately and a new rear tire soon. I would also change out the battery because I cannot remember when I did it last. Chain is less than 1700 miles old. Rotors look good. I had the pickup coil burn out on me but that has been replaced as well. It starts up immediately with the choke and runs great. I have not ridden it regularly in over a year but have stored it inside and started it up faithfully and kept its juices flowing so as not to gum up the carbs. It has always been parked inside. I just rode it yesterday around the parking lot and it still runs great and hauls boo-tocular muscles. The turn signals were JB Welded back on a zillion years ago. One got knocked off in a celebrated lane splitting incident on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles in 2009, one got knocked off as a result of a kickstand incident when I should not have been trying to ride. Thank god the coppers were not there that nite. The ding in the tank happened when I trucked it and another Triumph to my new house. The old Triumph's handlebar bit the new bike. Everything else on the bike is pretty bone stock, I think I took off the reflectors and that is about it. The neutral light is out, there is a bit of rust on the speedo/tach bracket that happened at some point. The bike needs a really thorough detail job and it would be almost as stunning as it was when I rode it home in 1999. I say this as a long time owner, the truth is probably more like this: The paint is a bit faded, the rims are DULL from not cleaning them, there are nicks and chips and dings and dongs through the entire bike. The rubber is worn from use. It is a 16 year old bike with 30K on it. It has the usual flaws. If there was a war crimes court for bugs, this bike would be tried for genocide. I slayed bugs on this bike from South Carolina to Southern California. I have ridden into many a sunset on this bike, I have carved many a Canyon. I sell the bike reluctantly, I am the original owner and it has been with me a long time. But I just don't ride it anymore and it needs a good home. I require a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $500 through PAYPAL within 24 hours of the auction's end. Unless you are coming to get it in the two hours after the auction, this is non-negotiable. The balance will be paid with CASH if you are picking up in person or by check if I am shipping or dropping off. All checks will clear before anything happens. I will help with shipping and when I say help I will be here when your guy shows up to get it or I will take a $200 dollar extra fee if I have to load it up and take it to a drop off point in Los Angeles. I might deliver as far as $300 miles but the balance will be paid in full before I start on the journey. There are a million door to door bike haulers out there today, if you buy it from far away, you can find them. I have one guy's card on my desk I could give you his number. Buy my bike and enjoy it.
