One of my good friends was selling this absolutely immaculate example of the Legendary Morris Minor Traveller 2-Door Estate Model back in 2010 and I decided to buy it. This little gem has obviously seen little action as the odometer just recently turned over 60K miles. And has traveled less than 2000 miles since a complete paint and interior restoration was done two years ago. Drivetrain, Interior, Exterior and Undercarriage were all carefully restored on this near perfect bodied car. In late 2010 this Morris was at a Southern California Woody Show and was selected by Collectable Automobile Magazine for a story on Morris Minor for the February 2011 Issue. They took many great pictures of the car. A copy of the issue will accompany the car. The secret to buying really great cars is to find never hit, virgin, no rust cars with low miles. This little Morris retains everything that came with it from the factory with the exception of adding front disc brakes and a superb Sony Sound System with iPod plug in. During the restoration the original motor had the top-end rebuild, and it runs wonderfully. The engine appearance is 100% Original. The car drives and shifts flawlessly and has awesome power for a 948. I have had it on the freeway and it moves along nicely at 60 - 65mph, no problem. You could cruise it at 65 if you wanted, but you feel like you are doing 100. These little cars were built to be little around town cars not freeway flyers, but with modern fuel this one does just great cruising down the road at speed. And according to original Morris materials these cars were supposed to get 30 mpg. I have not really checked it but it sure seems to sip gasoline. The car has spent its entire life in Southern California and you can tell by it’s absolutely flawless and rust-free body and undercarriage. This was a very original survivor car that received a new paint job around 2008 and done to look period correct, using five coats of Glasurit Single Stage Paint in the original Morris Birch Gray Color. The body had zero rot or cancer anywhere on it and was a totally virgin body, having never been hit in its’ 57 year history. You will simply not find a more perfect bodied Traveller anywhere. Body, body, body... buy BODY!!! Everything else on this one is just as nice. The body was stripped completely to metal and repainted using only the best materials money can buy and you can tell from this flawless, ripple free flat paintwork. The paint was flattened to give the car a very high luster, while still retaining that 50’s - 60’s deep look of paint. Nothing worse to me than an classic car with two-stage modern base/clearcoat paint on them, it just does not work for me. I remember how these cars looked in the 60’s and I liked them that way. The owner wanted to leave as much original as he could on this car so the jams and dash and entire interior cabin paint and engine bay area are all original to the car; matching perfectly with the new exterior paint. The Birch Gray is probably one of the best colors on these little Morris Cars, it just looks right. They also look great in British Racing Green, but this is a really fun color and accented by the Blue “Phil” Surfboard, this baby just looks like a beach cruiser. Although, to be honest I don’t think this surfboard has been in the water since the late 60’s. You are bidding on the car ONLY!! But this board looks amazing with this car. I paid $1500 for the board with the car when I bought it and I will sell it for the same number or would be more than happy to just keep it. It’s a very rare board and was worth $2000 when I bought it. “Surfboards by Phil” were very popular and used in the movie industry back in the early to late sixties. Also, please note the CA Black Plates and Carmel License Plate Surround do not go with the car, but give you an idea of what it would look like with these plates on it. This car, bought in CA would have had Yellow Plates with Black Letters, but they got trashed years ago. I have a nice set of Yellow/Black Plates that are DMV clear and can be used with the car if you are in CA. I would be willing to sell them with the car at an additional agreed price. They read VXB646 and are nearly perfect original plates. The car will come with a set of White CA Tags with a 2014 Sticker on them and currently registered. The Wood on this car was carefully taken apart and cleaned during the restoration, retaining almost 100% of the original pieces. It was then reassembled after the car was painted and refinished. The car has been garaged every minute since the restoration. The paint and wood are both bright and vibrant. The Interior has zero wear. The Interior material is a really wonderful vinyl material and the rug and head-liner are both high-end English style materials that sets the interior off. The seats were completely rebuilt and are extremely comfortable. The rear cargo area has a really nice mat that folds out if you have a dog that likes to jump in the back. Underneath the flap that is located right at the floor and the back doors is a nice storage area and the rear speakers are housed nicely in that space. The Sony Stereo is set up nicely under the dash with high-quality speakers front and rear, no cutting was done anywhere. There is an iPod connection in the front left glove compartment in front of the steering wheel and is easy to access, with enough length to comfortably put the iPod on the seat. The sound quality is amazing and fills the car even with all the windows open. This is a superb example of the 1957 Morris Minor Traveller. I would not rate it a #1 Car, only because the interior paint and engine area were left original (although both in wonderful original condition). Clearly it is a Show Car like it is and has won numerous awards. I would call this vehicle a 2+ Show/Driver. It’s a great car to show, but also not so incredibly perfect that you wouldn’t want to drive it. This to me represents the perfect kind of car to drive and own. Everything works on this car just like it should, it drives down the road straight as an arrow and has many years of fun driving before it would require anything. These cars are extremely simple to work on and parts are readily available and competitive in costs because there are numerous suppliers. If you want a really fun, attention getting utility car that should not go down in value, this is it. These old English cars are just getting going in the collector world. This is a nice place to jump onboard. For additional information, call Frank between the hours of 8AM and 11PM seven days a week, at 949-310-6262.
