Vehicle Detail
1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 1LE. I am the original owner. 8923 miles. The vehicle was special ordered by Gateway Chevrolet in Chicago on November 7th, 1989. It was ordered with the 1LE package (if you're unfamiliar with the 1LE there's plenty of online references), 5.7L, AT, power door locks, rear window defogger, and radio delete. I purchased it on July 31, 1990. When I purchased the car I had the salesman make a copy of every piece of paperwork in their file. I have the ordering spec sheet, confirmation of order, lots of good stuff. I have every possible piece of paperwork for the car, a binder full. My intention was to build a street car that I could take to the track on occasion. The 1LE was already a capable car but I made some improvements. I fully realized that this would be a collectible so I made sure the vehicle could be returned to stock form. I kept all original parts that came off the car except for the spark plugs and air filters. The modifications were; Paxton Centrifugal Supercharger w/cooling system and piggyback fuel pump. Edelbrock ceramic coated headers, Ford Racing 24lb injectors, West Coast Engineering subframe connectors, Competition Engineering rear control arms, HPM driveshaft loop, Eibach Pro Kit springs, Hurst Quarter Stick shifter w/ reverse lockout, Trans-Go shift kit w/ aluminum pan and cooler, Hooker Aerochamber muffler, Autometer liquid-filled boost gauge, and a six point roll cage w/ passenger swing out installed by Rick's Racecraft. Shortly after it's completion I got married and subsequently the car never made it to the track. For the past 23+ years she's been a garage kept fair weather driver and show car. It's never seen snow and was in the rain once. It won it's class at Super Chevy and Chevy Vettefest and most shows I've attended. It runs great with no check engine lights. It's been religiously maintained with all synthetic fluids. 5 years ago I put Kumho Ecsta ASX tires on her and stored the original Goodyear Gatorbacks in tire bags. The brakes still have the original PBR brake pads. The factory cats are still in place so she's emissions legal. Faults are few; the pump that runs the supercharger cooler drips occasionally. The driver's side turn signal lens has a small crack. The driver's side front fender has 2 tiny dings that a dent repair company could pop out. Hood gas struts are weak. She could probably use a professional buff for the original paint. 1991 was around when GM began using water based paint. That's it. 1 of 175 built. One of the lowest mile 1991 5.7L 1LEs on the planet. Tons of documentation and 99% of the original equipment to return her to stock if you want. With Chevrolet bringing back the fifth generation 1LE in 2013 interest in the originals has soared. Good Luck!
