HISTORY OF THIS FASTBACK 1965 FASTBACK MUSTANGI PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM MY FRIEND A YEAR AGO AND IN THE GARAGE IT WENT. I DROVE IT 348 MILES ONLY. He bought this car about 6 years ago from his cousin and her husband. But a good friend of his bought this car from CA back in 1986. He owned the car up until 2000. He almost bought the car from him at that time, but he had too many projects going at the time. He called him about 6 months after passing on it , and it had been sold already. The guy he sold it too instantly turned it over and it went to another owner before his cousin bought it in 2006. The was taken to Muscle Car Etc, to have the car stripped and painted. Jay Herbster, who owns the shop, previously worked (body/paint work) for Paul Russell Restorations in Essex MA. This is a first class restoration shop that has numerous times won best of show and best of class at Pebble Beach on a number of occasions, so his work is second to none. The hood, doors, fenders, and all the glass were removed, everything stripped, metal finished, primed, painted and re-assembled. The passenger door had a little bit of rust on one corner, so they located a door from Texas and had it shipped back east. All new rubbers and felts on all the glass/doors etc. I have receipts for ever single part, plus the labor spent on the restoration of this car. They did nothing to the motor or chassis, other than add dual exhaust with a couple of Flowmaster Mufflers. New upper ball joints. Shelby quick steering kit which is a shorter Pitman arm and Idler arm it quickens up the steering. The upper control arm mounting points have been moved down 1 inch and 1/8” back which gives the front end a little more camber on hard cornering (Shelby did this to all the 65 and 66 Shelby Mustangs) which equates to better handling. Has big sway bars on both ends. This cars handles as well as my friends 2008 Mustang Bullitt. New rugs in the car, front seats reupholstered, windshield replaced with a new Casite ( this is the correct glass. replaced the stock steering wheel with a new reproduction.The original windshield had minor scratches from old wipers). New Shelby rear window kit had them installed. He did a beautiful job installing them. Turned out to be over 15 hour job, start to finish. Rocker panel moldings removed and had them weld up the holes and re-spray the rocker panels as well as remove the FORD letters off the hood and weld the hole and repaint the stock hood. My friend Had to roll the edges on all four fenders for tire clearance. When he bought the car, it had 16 inch polished Torque Thrusts on it with 60 series tires. He replaced them with the 15 inch Shelby R Torque thrust mags that are on it now along with four new Firestone.He replaced the C4 trans with a T-5 5 spd. installed a new clutch kit along with a new hydraulic clutch system. Much better than the stock set up, and he tapped off the original Master Cylinder for the clutch reservoir, so it looks like stock. He replaced the strut tower braces with the 1 piece Shelby unit and he also installed Global West subframe connectors.
