Vehicle Detail
I got this completely gorgeous red Honda CB750 back in September of 2013. The bike comes with a clean New York State title in my name. The previous owner bought it on a whim (and then did not have time to ride it) from Steven J. Preston of Georgia who restores and customizes old Honda CB550s and 750s. I will supply this builders address and phone # along with the bike. The bike has a 1976 CB750 Super Sport engine on a 1974 CB750 frame. The engine number is #CB750OE-2518739.The VIN on the frame is #CB750-2303293 and the tag is dated 6/73. It looks like there was quite a bit of work done on the bike back in September of 2007 at 14903.0 miles (less than 50 miles ago). At that point, there were 2 new Metzler Lasertec tires installed which presently have only 47 miles on them. He also had a Dynateck Hi Performance electronic ignition installed. Additionally, the front caliper and master cylinder were rebuilt. This work, and a few other minor things, was done by a cycle shop here in Western, NY at a cost of over $900.00. When I got the bike in September, 2013, it had only been ridden about 40 miles since 2007. The bike started fine but wouldn't run well and the front brake was in need of some work. So, I took the bike to a certified Honda dealer and had the following work done: a new master brake cylinder was installed -- the reservoir is still the original and works well; the front brake lever was replaced with a new one; two new front fork boots (gators) were put on; a new oil seal for the tach cable was installed; 4 new NGK spark plugs; new brake fluid; 4 new valve set floats for the carbs and; the carbs were cleaned. The battery is also new and cranks great. The total spent on these repairs was $630.00. The front and rear sprockets are like new, as is the chain. All of the following parts work as they should: the turn signals (and indicator light); rear brake light w/ the front and rear brake; the electric starter and the kick starter; the side kick stand and center stand; the oil gauge on the right side of the engine works; it looks like there is a newer ignition switch which has 2 keys; the kill switch on/off and; the headlight on/off switch; the high and low beams work although the indicator lamp for the high beam dose not work and may need a new bulb: the horn is nice and loud; the fuel tank petcock works in all three positions (reserve/on/stop/off) and; the speedometer and tachometer both work as do both the odometer and trip odometer. There is one original Honda key that fits the gas tank and the seat lock. The gas tank has been sealed inside and there aren't any rust issues whatsoever. The seat is in great condition and does not have any rips or tears. The red paint looks awesome and was professionally done. There are just 3 paint issues that I was able to detect: a 1/2" long scratch on the right side of the tank (see pics); some paint worn away on the front fender as a result of the speedometer cable rubbing on it and; some very slight scratches on the left side of the cover. There appears to be some fiberglass patches on the inside of the side covers but the exteriors look great. A pint of ready-mixed Candy Ruby Red 1:1 matching red spray paint will be included. I am not sure is the frame is silver powder coated or if it is silver paint but, in any case, it looks awesome. The chrome on both wheel rims, and on the clutch cover and points cover looks good but could use a polishing to make them really pop. Some of the phillips head screws exhibit some rust and there is a very small dent on the far left header that has some enamel chipped away. I have recently ridden this bike only a few miles to recheck it and make sure that everything on it is in proper working order. Even at 70 mph, it ran nicely and the brakes worked great. One used points plate and some other odds and ends will be included (along with the aforementioned red paint and restorer's contact info.). Overall, I would rate this bike an 8.5 out of 10. It's a great ride and is seriously impressive looking as well.Unfortunately, it was a bit overcast when the photos were taken and I feel that they don't really do the bike justice.I have done my best to provide a thorough description but may have inadvertently left something out. Please feel to contact me with any comments or questions. On Apr-09-14 at 20:08:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Steve Preston, the guy who executed the rebuild on this bike, contacted me and I was able to get some additional info on it. Here was his response: I do all paint work on my bikes, the silver is PPG urethene Motor was not in need of a rebuild, gaskets were changed, Its been at least 8 years since i built this.
