Vehicle Detail
1986 Chevy Silverado 4x4 3/4 ton truck 454 4 speed manual transmission History: We have owned this truck since 1999 and have done a fairly extensive restoration. It is not complete, however. We are looking to sell it in this state due to our growing family. My wife and I started restoring this truck years ago and have had some kids since then and now, being a single cab it will not work for us. We have put a lot of time and money into this truck but have decided it is time to part ways. We started with an 85,000 original mile rust free Colorado truck and completed the following: Body: Sand blasted all the sheet metal down to its bare state, worked with PPG paint materials the whole way through. It is painted a Chevy truck silver from 1982. The original color is grey. The paint is about 4 years old and has never seen the road, but has an imperfection here and there, just storage rash (VERY minor… but paint is not perfect). We painted the underside of the cab, but not underneath the bed. We just had no way to turn it over when we did the paint. Frame: We blasted the frame down to bare metal and sprayed it in Chassis semi-gloss black. We had the original axles (Dana 44 front / Corporate rear) rebuilt and they retain their original 3.23:1 gear ratio. The truck has a 4” lift on it with rear springs that are out of a 1988 1 ton dually Chevy, the springs were re-arched before we put the back in and it has new bushings throughout the front and rear ends. The truck has the quad-shock front suspension: all the shocks up front are new. The rear has no shocks at this time. The truck has dual fuel tanks as well as new Warn locking hubs. The wheels are aluminum late model Chevy with 33 x 12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ tires that have zero miles on them. The brake booster and all that sort of stuff is brand new. It has a new steering box and a new Borgson steering shaft. New brake calipers and pads up front. Engine: The engine is a 454 cubic incher out of a 1988 Chevy 1 ton Dually and all the fuel injection stuff has been replaced with a stealth aluminum intake and an Edelbrock 650 cfm carb as well as a Corvette air cleaner to top off the engine. The engine is completely new and rebuilt. It 30 over, balanced and blueprinted with a nice RV cam (I have the cam card… have to dig it up for you for the exact cam specs). The heads are stock, it has a double roller timing chain and gears as well as a high volume oil pump. There is also a new HEI distributor. The front of the engine has been converted to a serpentine system via aluminum MARCH under-driven pullies. The engine has a pair of ceramic coated headers on it with self-locking header bolts and copper gaskets. There is also a mini starter on it. The exhaust system ends there; no further work has been done. A 454 was not offered in this truck from the factory. When I replaced the original 350 with this 454 it sat way too high, so I put the correct frame mounting brackets in the truck out of a 1 ton 454 an made the engine sit the correct height The engine should be in the 415-430 HP range (at the flywheel) Trans / Transfer case: The 465 4 speed transmission has been completely disassembled and gone through. So has the NP 208C transfer case. The clutch has been replaced with a Centerforce dual friction unit and a new flywheel. I do not have the rear drive shaft, nor do I have any idea where it has gone. I do have the front driveshaft. Interior: This is where the majority of the finish work needs to be done. I have a new reconditioned (foam and everything) bench seat that had been with the truck since it was new. I do have the glove box (painted to match) I do not have any other interior pieces. You will need all the door panels, dash pad, instrument cluster, carpet… etc. I do have a brand new in the box Painless wiring kit that is specific for this truck that will go along with it. All of the glass is good. The windshield and rear sliding glass is brand new. The antenna for the radio is in the windshield. Miscellaneous: I do not have anything that you do not see pictured. I do not have a rear tailgate that is painted. I do have a real nice tailgate that I can throw in, but it is at my barn in Kansas and I will have it here in mid-March. If you do not see it, I do not have it. I do have a NOS set of Silverado 30 fender emblems that have never been on the truck. They are still in their box. This truck will be great when it is completed. It just needs that final push over the hump. I have a clear Georgia title. It’s a Georgia title because my wife and I were stationed there for a while and we registered it there. It was sold new at Burt Chevy in Denver, Colorado and spent its entire life there until we bought it. We swapped out the power windows for manual windows. New ploy cab mounts were installedfloorboards are not rusty, just dusty and a little dirty.
