Offered for Sale by the California Automobile Museum
This 1928 Ford Model A Sport Coupe for sale at the California Automobile Museum was donated to us. This is an early AR model which was built in January of 1928. There are several things that still need to be completed for this Ford to be roadworthy but is mostly complete and is running and driving.
We are unaware of how long the vehicle sat before we received the vehicle as it was donated through an estate.
Exterior
This Model A Sport Coupe presents well. The body is very solid and straight. There are a couple of spots where the body filler seems to be a bit heavier than others but my magnet still stuck to those areas. The paint has a pretty good shine to it but it does have some scratches on the fenders. The passenger door needs to be adjusted as the door does not want to close flush to the panel. There are a couple of door hinge pins missing and the outside door handle on the passenger side is also missing. The top is in good condition and does not have any rips or tears and is not faded. The glass throughout the vehicle is in good shape and does not have any chips or cracks. The grill is straight and has a good shine to it. The bumpers are straight and the chrome is in good condition. The left front tire looks to have been the spare and has cracks in the sidewall and the tread. The 3 other tires and what is now mounted on the spare tire holder all appear almost new but have date codes of 367 which represent the 36th week of 1997. The steel wheels appear to be in good condition.
Interior
The seat in the Ford is in good condition and does not have any rips or tears. The door panels are complete and are clean. The wood floor panel is missing as is the rubber floor mat. The gauge cluster is in good condition and is complete. The steering wheel is in great condition. One of the window cranks is missing. The trim piece that goes on the passenger door is in the tray behind the seat.
Mechanical
The Ford Model A starts up easily and runs nicely. The Sacramento Capitol A's helped to get the vehicle running as it was donated with a broken bendix gear on the starter and the water pump was frozen. A new water pump was installed along with a bendix gear and the Ford now seems to run strong. The Ford does drive but the brakes will need to be checked out as they are out of adjustment and the pedal will go to the floor. The transmission shifts properly and the clutch has a good feel to it.
The electrical system looks to also need some work. The amp gauge is not working. The lights work but one of them was intermittent at first and now comes on. The tail light is working but the stop light is not working. The horn and the windshield wiper do work.
Overview
This Sport Coupe is a great vehicle that will need work to get roadworthy but is fairly complete. This vehicle was donated through an estate and was picked up in not running condition. We had to do minimal work to get this vehicle running.
