Vehicle Detail

This Bel-Air is in nice vintage condition and is a great driver. Suitable for enjoying as is or as a great basis for a restoration or rod. Originally a southern Oklahoma car, it is very straight and solid, with the floor pans, rockers and trunk all in great shape. It has the original in-line 6 cylinder mated to the original 2 speed Powerglide transmission with 3:08 rear axle. Manual steering and brakes. Original factory color combo of White over Cascade Green. I've done extensive mechanical work over the last couple of years to make it a reliable driver, including the following: All new upper and lower ball joints Brakes re-done including all new brake hoses Re-cored radiator New starter, coil, distributor, plug wires and heater hoses Original Rochester carb cleaned and reinstalled, with automatic choke rebuilt. Fuel tank and fuel lines cleaned out and replaced as necessary New water pump and thermostat New(n.o.s.)wiper switch New pinion bearing and seal Newer(less than 1000 miles) Coker wide white tires This is an unrestored car, and the paint is faded in spots and the sheet metal has its share of scrapes and minor dings. Overall, the body panels fit very well and the doors, hood and trunk close with a nice, solid 'thunk" typical of vintage cars made in the good ol' U.S of A. I've included close up photos of the most notable wear areas, mainly the following: Ding to the leading edge of the hood on the left side scrape to the lower wheel wheel on the left side paint crack on the rear apron next to the license plate scrape and small hole (1/4") on the lower left rear quarter. (Looks like it was backed over a low curb many years ago) The interior is original and the fabric and door panels are well worn. The original carpet is faded but intact, as is the original headliner. The odometer shows 65037, and judging by the wear I'd guess it has turned over, but probably only once. You can tell that the original owner liked to lean their left arm on the drivers door, as the vinyl has worn through from many years of cruising. The original seats have a saddle blanket cover over them, and I actually kind of like the look. The dash and steering wheel are in excellent shape. All of the original glass is intact. All of the original trim is present, including the original factory "dog-dish" style hub caps. All the gauges, lights and horn work, and the heater and defroster work great. When I replaced the water pump I installed a more accurate temp gauge. This was originally a "radio-delete" car, and still has the blank face plate, but I found and installed an original 1960 Chevy radio, though it's not wired in yet. I was tempted to replace the in-line 6 with a crate GM 350 and to re-do the paint and interior, but I found that I really appreciate the originality and patina of it, plus I don't have to worry about driving it as is. It accelerates briskly and will cruise all day at 70 mph. The Powerglide goes smoothly through the gears just as it should. Since re-doing the brakes, it stops straight and true. The engine has never been apart as far as I can tell, but it still starts easily and idles smoothly once its warm. If I were to do anything more mechanically to it, I would probably install hardened valve seats so it would run more efficiently on unleaded fuel, and do the rings while I was at it to eliminate any blow-by, as it does emit some smoke at start up. The ride is cushy, and it feels like driving around on your living room couch. I have a spare 2 barrel Weber carb that I bought from Langdon's Stovebolt, which I will include. I never installed it as the original still works fine. Rochester carbs are notorious for leaking, but this one doesn't. Just turn the key to "on", step on the accelerator once to set the auto choke, then crank it, and will turn over in even the coldest weather. I always say "If it ain't broke..." This is by no means a show car, but just a simple old school cruiser with great sculpted lines that you can enjoy as is. I have over 8k invested in this car and I hate to sell it, but I'm having to move cross country this spring and I need to downsize, so I've priced it with a reserve far below what I have in it. I will include a full set of shop manuals, owners manual, and a set of matching seat belts I bought from Ecklers Classic Chevy. It also comes with a set of color matched original fender skirts that take only a couple of minutes to install. I hate surprises when buying a car so I've tried to describe everything as best I can, but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. As with all old cars, unexpected issues can crop up at any time, but the beauty of old Chevys is that they're simple to fix and parts are readily available. Thanks!
