Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a gorgeous 1968 Mercedes Benz 280SE.This stunning example is a 46 year old never rusted or repaired California Black plate car. Yes, you read it right, a 46 YO car that never rusted. Car was in California its whole life up until August of 2013.I bought the car from the original owner, and have the copy of the original title that corresponds to the Black plate. Being a 155 horsepower fuel injected car, you get the best of everything with great gas mileage the V8 cars lack, less weight over the front axle which makes the car much more nimble and more peppy. I've had both cars, and I can tell you getting 10MPG hurts bad, no matter how rich you are. This car gets consistently over 20MPG. When I found this car, I was surprised at the wonderful condition. All it needed to be a proper Mercedes was new paint, which was done at a top notch specialist shop, using the best materials, in the factory color, and new rugs which came from the Netherlands.Other than that, the car was always dealer serviced its whole life (Hollywood Mercedes I was told), so I just changed the oils and filters for peace of mind. I am showing pictures of the underbody and the inside floor so you can see the perfect condition of the sheet metal on the car. The floors are perfect, even the Original sound deadening is present throughout. The rear quarters where most of these cars accumulated water and rusted are perfect and showing the original factory welds and brush marks, inside and out. The car starts first time, every time. It is turn key. It idles very smoothly, and the automatic transmission is very stout and shifts properly. ELECTRIC POWER Windows in 1968. They of course all go up and down smoothly and there is even a Child safety switch. Factory/dealer radio works great. All lights inside and out work perfectly. There is a light scratch, from a wiper you can see in the pics; its not noticeable but its there. The headliner is immaculate with the exception of a small stain around the rear light.Car has factory air, but it is inop. I used to have a 280SE 4.5 I loved it, but the gas was murder. After selling it, I missed the car so much, I went on the hunt for this car, an unrusted original six cylinder car. I love it and would never sell it, but unforeseen circumstances, are moving us across the country. It saddens me to sell both my fantastic Mercedes, but I can only keep one car, and it has to be the new boring one. This car is a people magnet. Everywhere you go, people will comment on the car. Male, female, young and old--Everyone loves it!! Again every aspect of the car is in top shape.Engine- ExcellentTransmission- Excellent. shifts smoothSuspension Solid, smooth and tightBrakes-ExcellentInterior- Very good Original conditionExterior-Excellent Ready to run.
