Vehicle Detail

58 volvo 444 pv customfuel injected chevy v6 (2.8L) with 700r4 automatic overdrive transsomething over 6500 miles on rebuilt motor and trans4 wheel disc brakes on dual circuit master cylinderhandmade headers and dual exhaustcustom gages in original instrument clusterlots of custom touchescool looking classic custom ride that runs, drives, stops and steers needs some sorting and finishing to make it your ownca title and current reg recently driven at interstate speed from round-trip from missouri to north carolina without issue, and deals with sf-bay-area traffic in fine fashion. bidders are encouraged to view and test-drive the car before end of auction so that you know and understand exactly what you're bidding on. located between san francisco and san jose. please contact me with any questions, or to arrange a viewing. hotrod hot rod ratrod rat rod restomod vintage gasser classic 444 544 pv444 pv544 duett regarding all of the messages: body is pretty good. came to me with the very back of the trunk rusted, and some in the spare-tire well. at a friends advice the open space was fiberglassed-over and painted and is quite presentable considering it's not a showcar. some rust on the driver door. other than that i believe the body to be pretty solid. paint has patina, at least 2 colors of blue and could be easily left alone or just cleared (or totally redone...up to you) the car shakes a bit when getting hard on the brakes, so i'm pretty sure it needs control arm bushings replaced... and has some vibration during acceleration that seems to go away around 35-40 mph maybe due to torque rod bushings, or axle/u-bolt bushings maybe u-joint? it needs heat/air (i think a vintage air gen mini would be a great choice, seals on the glass and doors and trunk are only fair to poor (absent at trunk) and could use a panel fabricated below dash to conceal the ecu and harness, valve covers gaskets need replaced, chip in driver side windshield, one rear brake leaking dot3 unknown if from caliper or line. and though it has a working 2-speed wiper switch, i'm not satisfied with its apperance or placement. front clip is stock except for the disc brake stuff which i think was from an 1800 (could have been from the other volvo frequently talked about in forums as suitable for conversion...but i'm fairly certain it was 1800 stuff i finally came up with) rear axle is not volvo. it came from the same donor that the trans came from, an 85 s10 pickup that i converted to disc brakes with a kit, and the driveshaft from the donor was re-tubed to appropriate length at a driveline shop. other than a bracket that was welded to the top of the diff to accommodate mounting the torque-rods the rear suspension is stock. i love this car and don't want to see it go, but after a recent move, i just dont have the space to keep playing with it. so it's off to find a new home. if bidding goes over 5,500 winning bidder will receive the following extras: new and uninstalled front/rear springs, left/right steering rods, control-arm bushing set, sway-bar bushings. regarding the 2.8L motor... i chose this motor for it's durability and longevity, and affordability/availability of parts. i had an 87 s10 for more than 15 years with the 2.8 tbi motor, and it ran and ran and ran, and needed virtually nothing (occasional plugs/wires/cap/rotor, and religious oil & filter changes) and it went over 310,000 miles before i lost my 5th and reverse gears from the mated 5-speed. people like to talk about b20's being bulletproof, i'd absolutely call the 2.8 chevy bulletproof. the motor in this car was bought from a man who had it rebuilt for his 87 s10 that was mated to a 700r4 automatic overdrive trans, and shortly thereafter blew-up his transmission causing him to lose interest in his ride. so this particular motor should last a very very long time. the automatic overdrive transmission in the car had a similar but opposite situation to the above. i bought it from a man who owned/operated a speed shop and transmission shop. he rebuilt the transmission and gave the pickup to his son, then the motor developed a knock and the kid lost interest in it... it was the older carburated motor which people have told me that gm improved with the introduction of the tbi version. adding a couple pics today... showing california title in my name, the rust on the driver-side door, the chip in the windscreen, custom glove-box, custom backup-lamps, gasser-style exhaust (yes there are mufflers...in the form of racing-style 3-disc perforated-baffles inside the down-pipes). ...all 4 tires are basically new having just about 6500 miles... fairly narrow (165) in front and fairly wide (225) in back giving the car a racey look. new vintique 15" rims with babymoons on the front, and used ktm 16" rims in back. rear fenders were circumferenced to fit the rear tires... makes it obvious to the eye-ball that the rear is the business-end of the car. overall height of front and rear tires is very close to each other so there is no rake caused by the dissimilar tires. thanks to everyone for all the questions and comments about the car. about the interior... car came to me with the vinyl badly cracked on the front seats, while the rear seat and door-panels seemed fine they could still use a good scrub if you're so inclined. front seat frames and foam seemed fine, so i removed all the cracked vinyl and stitching back to the foam, and then modified and fitted well padded bench-seat covers with super77 spray adhesive, then got some tiki-girl slipcovers to finish them off and give an island feel. carpet in front of the seats was removed for fitting the trans tunnel, and has not yet been redone. black carpet in front of the rear seat is quite presentable. the carpet in the 'hat-shelf' or whatever you want to call it is tatty. windows go up and down easily with the cranks, doors open and close easily. windwings open and close. the horn-ring on the steering wheel was broken so i just ground the spokes off of the center-section of the steering-wheel. a push-button switch was put in the dash to operate 12v dual horns. for what its worth there is nothing 6v still in the car...it's all 12v. On Jan-17-14 at 19:36:53 PST, seller added the following information:Dear ****** hi *** thanks for your message. personally i would not hesitate to drive the car to so-cal. seriously i'd even do it with my wife and our 2 year old son along for the ride. yes the exhaust is a touch on the loud side...not too bad inside with the windows up, but can get annoying with the windows down. for what its worth the papers that came with my mufflers said a longer pipe would be quieter...and when i was doing the exhaust i still had a laundry list of things to get it runnable, so i just let the exhaust dump below the fender, and moved on to other things. i had always planned to revisit the exhaust by plumbing what's there now into some glass-packs fit like side-pipes. i thought would fit the look of the car. - jeffjeepwilly
